Camp Ndegeya is a growing sculpture park with camping facilities located in Masaka, a major town South West of Kampala. Masaka town is 125km from Kampala and Camp Ndegeya is only 3.5Km off the Masaka - Mbarara highway bypass or 6.5Km from Masaka Town The space Camp Ndegeya is a unique place that was formed as a part of the big dream "To transform Ndegeya” Village in Masaka into the first of its kind Community for the Arts in Uganda and East Africa at large". The Campsite is located in a serene area sitting on a beautiful hill viewing at a 360 Degrees range. Camp Ndegeya relatively very near Masaka town yet it feels far away from any urban area. It's a perfect getaway place for those who are seeking adventure, escaping the hustle and bustle of the city, learning about Ugandan families and their traditions while you would also learn about the role of art in development of the Ugandan society. Camp Ndegeya is quickly becoming a bird watching site in Masaka area and there are multiple bird species; not to forget the dominant Ndegeya (Weaver Bird) after which the village was named centuries ago. Bird watching at Camp Ndegeya and nearby areas is done under the guidance of our professional tour guide although guests are always free to do it themselves. Our guests get the privilege to visit the local school for the deaf where students engage with visitors on professional levels by teaching the latter sign language, performances like silent poetry; engage in group workshops to mention a few. The Campsite has a fireplace where on a good weekend we invite local performers like drummers, poets and other dramatists from the community to share their talents around the campfire. And last but not least, most families in the Ndegeya area survive on subsistence farming and those would who love to visit poultry, cattle and fish farms, the village offers a unique experience of how Ugandan small scale farmers carry out these activities. It’s one of our recommended activities during your visit. Guest access The Campsite has standard bathrooms that are shared by guests but the ladies and gents are separated. And both bathrooms blocks have running water connected to a heater that warms it every evening and morning. Secondly there’s a proper kitchen with a chef and helpers who are at full service to guests and additionally on request the kitchen may be available to those who may prefer to cook for themselves especially during group excursions or weekend outs. During your stay We at Camp Ndegeya interact with our guests on a daily basis to make sure they are feeling at home and enjoying their Ndegeya experience. I personally may not be present at all times when our guests are on site but my assistants are always on site 24 hours. Other things to note We have 5 private rooms and each room has one bed but can accommodate up to 2 people especially those who travel as a couple. And those who may want to share a room without sharing the bed; a sleeping bag or relevant material may come in as handy. Additionally there’s a designated space for campers who may want to sleep in their own or rented tents at Camp Ndegeya. The campsite has a couple of mountain bikes available for guests to rent and we wish to inform you that doing a village tour of Weaver Bird (Ndegeya) on a bike is such remarkable experience. And you visit during the weekend when Weaver Bird Arts Foundation hosts the quarterly art camps, you might get the opportunity to ride alongside local cyclists who come through for a cycling competition dubbed TOUR WEAVER BIRD. For guests who may want to go swimming, Masaka town has a couple of Hotels swimming pools where a small fee up to Ush5000 is charged per person; or you may want to go out of town to Lake Nabugabo which is about an hour or less away and has 3 popular beaches. Nabugabo Sand Beach is most popular one where fun activities like beach volleyball, donkey riding and swimming can’t be missed on a fine looking day.
