Restaurants, galleries, hiking, biking, fishing, skiing, golf, opera, pueblos + hot springs. Call this peaceful space home as you explore northern New Mexico and all it has to offer. Beautiful, bright, private and secluded, The Casita is in the traditional historic community of La Puebla, inhabited for over 100 years. Today, La Puebla has a rural residential character with alfalfa fields that are dotted with modest houses. At 450 square feet, the Casita has an open floor plan with a great layout and separation of spaces. It's ideal for one person or a couple, but a small child can be accommodated by arrangement. There is high speed wifi for your use which can be disabled upon request. Couples can easily work remotely at the same time in the Casita. With simple, elegant and comfortable furnishings, the Casita is built with local materials: saltillo tile floors, an exposed adobe wall, handmade wooden cabinets, wooden beams and ceiling. The full kitchen has a double sink, coffee, tea, condiments, cookware and dishes. The beautiful bed is luxuriously furnished with air-dried 100% cotton linens. The private courtyard adjacent to our vegetable garden is a lovely three season space to eat or relax. The Casita sits behind our house and our other listing. Ask us about the Country Oasis if you need more space. It accommodates 7 and has 2 bathrooms and a kitchen. There is a lawn between the houses that is both buffer and gathering space. Ours was built in the '40s and the Casita was added in the '50's as part of a veterinary practice on the property. We remodeled the Casita into the cozy dwelling you will enjoy, and we continue to make improvements, like the recently added mini-split for heating and air conditioning. Use the mini-split for heating and cooling, or open the curtains to let the sun shine in and enjoy the heat of passive solar gain.. You will find the Casita exceedingly comfortable and impeccably clean. We provide breakfast basics for your first morning. Coffee, tea, nut milk, fruit, granola and yogurt await, so you can relax the next morning after your trip. Spices, oil and vinegar are stocked for your use during your stay. Sit by, or in, the Santa Cruz river at the bottom of the property and enjoy expansive and spectacular mountain view hikes up the street. Ask us for our tips on how best to see the area so you can use your precious vacation time to see all you want to see. Groceries, restaurants, brew pub and post office are within a 7 mile radius. Dogs are allowed with an additional fee. Please see the "other things to note" below. You will need a car to get here and to get around. All roads up to our driveway are paved and directions are straightforward. GPS is generally accurate but we also provide written directions for backup. Our property is gated with the keypad programmed to our guests' phone number. We plow the short circular driveway when it snows. The Casita is down a paved path from the parking area. This is an amazing corner of New Mexico and we are happy to share it with you. The Casita sits on our property behind our house. Your sunken front patio, complete with BBQ, umbrellaed table and chaise lounges, looks onto the backyard behind our house and the entrance to our other listing, the Oasis. There may be other guests on the property, or you can rent the Oasis for your larger group. Together both places can accommodate 10 people. We can interact as little or as much as you like...you can have complete seclusion or hang out with us when we are around, typically working on the property or having some food and wine at day's end, down by or in the river during the summer months. La Puebla is a centrally located, easily accessible, rural residential area central to and close by Espanola, Santa Fe, Taos, Los Alamos and many wonderful northern New Mexico attractions. Considered a Traditional Historic Community, La Puebla has been inhabited for over 100 years. Our property had a Native American presence prior to Spanish times, as evidenced by the pot shards and corn grinding tools we have unearthed here. Now we are 10 minutes to the Dreamcatcher movie theater, some great restaurants and taco stands and a brewpub serving northern New Mexican fare along with historic locations like the Santuario de Chimayo, Los Luceros, Bandelier National Park and the Valles Caldera National Monument. Santa fe is an easy 25 minute drive. The Santa Cruz River runs the width of our land, which is watered by two acequias, traditional irrigation ditches that bring mountain water to the valley fields via an upstream reservoir. Acequias are independently governed in each locale, headed by a mayor domo who is in charge of allocating the water to each parciante (water user) in times of scarcity or plenty. We are happy to share our experience and knowledge as parciantes on the Maestas and La Puebla ditches. A five minute walk up the street is a great playground with basketball hoops and a walking track. There is also the fantastic open space for hiking or biking where we start or end most days and where you'll find spectacular mountain vistas of the Sangre de Christos (Blood of Christ) to the east and the Jemez Mountains to the west. The light is especially spectacular at the end of the day Also in the neighborhood is a local chapel that was recently restored. The High Road to Taos is right around the corner. All this within 5 minutes of the Casita. And there is so much more a little further afield. Whether you are up for a retreat, remote work stay or an active holiday come and enjoy the unique and beautiful Oasis if you want a taste of the real New Mexico. If you want to bring a group, let us know. Our Oasis, on the same property, sleeps 7. You need a car to fully enjoy this area. (Please drive slowly on our street and driveway). We have parking for up to 7 vehicles in our main parking area. For larger vehicles, campers or trailers, or those we have spots that are easier to back in and out of. The Santa Cruz River runs through our property and is a 5 minute walk from the Casita. There is a playground with a lovely walking track a 5 minute walk up the street and a vast and stunning hiking area with mountain views a 10 minute's walk up the street for those who prefer a more rugged experience, though your hike can be tailored to your skills and desires. Breakfast items are provided for your first night to get you started with your stay: coffee, tea, nut milk, granola, fruit and yogurt. Spices, oil and vinegar are stocked to hold you through your visit. No smoking on premises, please. Laundry is off-site with two nice laundromats 5 minutes away, with laundry service if you desire. There is a clothesline and a drying rack for your use. Drying is very quick in this climate. We are a dog friendly property, with an indoor/outdoor kennel run adjacent to the Casita that we reserve for our guest canines. Your pet is free to roam the property but please pick up after them on the lawn. Enjoy a romp to the river and wonderful hiking area up the street that dogs (and humans) love. If your dog is not kenneled or with you when you are away for the day, we ask that they are crated in the Casita. We additionally ask that you do not allow them on the furniture. The pet fee of $25 per day per dog is charged at the time of your booking through the Airbnb resolution center so there's no extra fees or taxes. For stays of 7 days or more, the fee is $140 per week per dog or $375 per month per dog. We are sorry, but feline guests are not allowed in the Casita.
