Description
Solli is a cute and cosy cabin located on the fishing village of Oldervik in Norway. It's the perfect place to escape to and appreciate the beautiful surroundings. The space The cabin is a basic Norwegian "Hytte". It is set back from the road, access is down steep, uneven steps which will be snow covered in winter. There is a covered front verandah where we keep a snow shovel (winter) and some firewood. On entering the cabin, there is a hall with space for hanging coats. The main living space has a galley kitchen, well stocked with cooking and eating utensils, and a sitting area (sofa, table, chairs). The bedrooms lead off from the main living space - one has a double bed and a chest of drawers, the other has 2 single beds and some storage shelves. The bathroom has a shower, toilet and basin. There is mains electricity and running water. The water source is from a river in the summer and a well (and electric pump) in the winter. There is a septic tank for waste, so please don't use harsh chemicals or flush anything other than small amounts of toilet paper down the loo! The cabin is heated mainly by a wood burning stove in the main living area. In the winter, there is also underfloor heating in the hall and bathroom, but this is not super hot (just keeps the chill off). The firewood is stored in the 'undercroft' which is accessed around the back of the cabin. The views are amazing. It is a wonderful, relaxing place to escape to. Services in Norway are expensive - we pay £50 for our cleaner to make up the beds and check the place over, and a further £30 - 45 for laundry costs after each guest. We ask our guests to leave the place in a tidy and clean condition and to remove all recycling and garbage when they leave ( there are instructions in the cabin to where leave everything). Without this help from our guests, our running costs would be prohibitive. There is easy access to the beach and the water for swimming ( if you're brave! - brrrr) For more photos, please find us on FB - Little Red House "Solli". Guest access The whole cabin is available for guests to enjoy Other things to note It is important to note that there are no shops in Oldervik, so all supplies need to be brought with you or bought in Tromsø. There are several large supermarkets and by checking prices & buying supermarket ‘own brands’ most products can be bought at similar price to the UK. There is a camping shop at Skittenelv, about 15 km from Oldervik, and this has a reasonable selection of basic food & toiletries. Essential things to bring: Warm & water-proof clothes (all year round!) Stout / water-proof footwear Food & drink (there is no shop in Oldervik village) Fire lighters & matches Torch (in winter) – in your hand baggage, so you can find the key! Studded shoe grips for ice (in winter) Insect repellent in Summer
