Welcome. The Sonoma County Chamber of Commerce describes Sonoma as "Heaven Condensed". We are situated right in the middle of hundreds of wineries, and more great restaurants than you could ever hope to try. The Sonoma Coast is a beautiful 45 minute drive through vineyards and Redwoods, and The Lost Coast of Mendocino makes for a spectacular day trip. San Francisco an hour to the South, with Napa 30 minutes to the East through the Carnaros Wine Region. Come... Relax... Swirl... Sip... Repeat. PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU BOOK ANYWHERE ELSE....... THE COUNTY OF SONOMA HAS MADE IT ILLEGAL TO RENT ANY GUESTHOUSE AS A "VACATION RENTAL" WITH A KITCHEN, OR ANY PART OF A KITCHEN. THE COUNTY DEFINES "VACATION RENTAL" AS ANY BOOKING OF 31 NIGHTS OR LESS. THEREFORE, BECAUSE THERE IS A FULL KITCHEN IN OUR GUESTHOUSE, WE ARE FORCED TO RENT IT WITH A MINIMUM 32 NIGHT STAY, (OR LONGER), PER BOOKING. THE ONE SILVER LINING TO THIS IS THAT THERE IS NO 13% TRANSIENT TAX ON YOUR STAY, A SAVINGS OF $400 PER MONTH. WE ARE SORRY THE COUNTY MADE THIS DETERMINATION, BUT OUR HANDS ARE TIED. IF YOU CHOOSE TO BOOK ANOTHER GUESTHOUSE WITH A KITCHEN IN SONOMA COUNTY FOR LESS THAN 32 NIGHTS, KNOW THAT YOUR BOOKING CAN BE CANCELLED AT ANYTIME BY THE COUNTY, WITH STIFF FINES BEING ISSUED. WITH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS NEW LAW, WE HAD TO CANCEL OVER A DOZEN FUTURE STAYS THAT AVERAGED 14 NIGHTS EACH. WE WILL SURELY MISS THE DOZENS OF WONDERFUL GUESTS WE WERE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HOST AND SHARE STORIES WITH OVER THE YEARS, BUT LIFE GOES ON, AND WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO MEETING OUR LONGER TERM GUESTS IN THE UPCOMING YEARS. DUE TO THE FACT THAT WE HAVE A 32 NIGHT MINIMUM, AND HAVE NO NIGHTLY OR WEEKLY RATES, THE POSTED NIGHTLY RATE ON THE CALENDAR IS NOW THE SAME RATE AS OUR PREVIOUS DISCOUNTED MONTHLY RATE, BUT NOW INCLUDES THE USE OF THE WASHER AND DRYER AT NO EXTRA COST. IF THERE ARE OPEN DATES ON OUR CALENDAR THAT ARE COMING UP SOON, THEY ARE DISCOUNTED EVEN FURTHER COMPARED TO DATES THAT ARE FURTHER OFF IN THE YEAR. WITH THAT IN MIND, IF YOU ARE IN THE AREA FOR WORK, OR AN EXTENDED VACATION, OR IF YOU ARE RELOCATING AND NEED A PLACE TO STAY UNTIL YOU FIND A PERMANENT HOME, WE'D LOVE IT IF YOU'D CONSIDER US, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. Our location was unaffected by the wild fires of 2017 and 2019, so feeling very fortunate, and all the while morning the loss of many of our friend's homes, we started a donation drive that ended up gathering over 40 pallets of clothing, toys, basics like shampoo, toothpaste and tooth brushes, and an amazing donation from Ghirardelli's of 1000lbs of chocolate, and Bombas Socks, (awesome company and awesome socks), donated 1000 pairs of socks. In addition to that, we collected $1500 in Costco Cards that was used to buy underwear, deodorant, soap and shampoo. We ask that if you have the need for some awesome gifts, please support Bombas and Ghirardelli's, they were here for us when we asked for help and they didn't hesitate to jump in. The fires are out, but the need will be around for years and we will continue to do what we can to help out. Now for the guesthouse details..... Detached, private, guesthouse with a private yard with an organic vegetable garden in the heart of the Wine Country on 2 acres. Far nicer than most other rentals out there, and we have made every effort to make your stay cozy and relaxing. Granite counter-tops. Stainless steel appliances. Enough kitchenware to cook a Thanksgiving Dinner. Claw-foot tub. Custom bath vanity. Flat screen Smart TV's in both the living room and the bedroom. DVR to record or pause live TV. Dedicated, (no signal sharing! Yay!!), High Speed WiFi. Bluetooth speaker for your music. Vintage record player with lots of old school vinyl to spin. Organic vegetable garden for all sorts of fresh vegi's from Spring thru Fall. Very comfy covered patio with a heater, and a recumbent exercise bike. Gorgeous string patio lights for magical nights of sipping wine. Gas and charcoal BBQ's, (for the purist grill master or mistress). Secure back yard for your furry best friend. This is a great space for an extended stay. Weather you are relocating for work, waiting for an escrow to close, waiting for your new dream house to come on the market, or if you are waiting for construction on your new dream house to be completed. Our guests have stayed with us from 1 month to 6 months and longer, and they are genuinely sad to leave, we stay in touch with many of them post-stay. Newly remodeled guesthouse. 1 bdrm, 1 bath with a full kitchen and fenced back yard with large covered patio with table and chairs, heater, exercise bike and chaise lounge chairs for enjoying a BBQ or partaking in some of your new found wine treasures. We also have lots room off street for parking your car, truck, RV or boat. Also, your other gear like bikes or kayaks will be more than safe in your secluded back yard or on your covered patio if it rains. Storage shed space also available for golf clubs, bikes or anything that needs to stay dry and out of the weather. Our location couldn't be any better, The West side of the Sonoma Mountains, (the Mayacamas), is where the locals hang out and wine taste. I've never stopped to count them, but I would guess that there are over 300 wineries within a one hour drive of us. Comes with free access to a Sonoma County Parks Pass, gaining you access to any of the local Sonoma County Parks which would cost you from $7-$10 per day. You will have miles and miles of hiking, biking, or horse trails, as well as access to several lakes and wetlands. We are 10 minutes to Historic Downtown Petaluma 20 minutes to Historic Downtown Sonoma and the Historic Sonoma Square 20-30 minutes to the Russian River, Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley, Carnaros Wine Regions (the best wine tasting this side of the Golden Gate Bridge) 45 minutes to Bodega Bay. 30 minutes to Napa and the Oxbow Marketplace. 25 minutes to Healdsburg. 20 minutes to Windsor. 20 minutes to Sebastopol and the wonderful Barlow Marketplace. 30 minutes to Larkspur and the ferry to the Ferry Building in San Francisco. (A must see). 50 minutes to the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco. 35 minutes to Lake Sonoma, (great fishing for Steelhead Trout or Bass), or just a fun day on the lake. For an amazing day trip, we are just over 2 hours to Mendocino and the Lost Coast. Are the Peanuts comic strips your thing? We are 15 minutes from the Charles Schultz Museum with the "Snoopy's Home Ice" skating rink in Santa Rosa. Our proximity to Bodega Bay means warmer winters and cooler summers. On the hot Summer days, the fog rolls in around 7:30 and takes it from 90 degrees, to a comfortable 75 degrees in less than an hour. Perfect for opening up the house, cooling it off, and great for sleeping with the window wide open, falling asleep to the sound of the tiny tree frogs and crickets. Summer days average in the upper 80's to low 90's, with the nights getting into the low 50's. Winter days run in the upper 50's and low 60's, with nights dipping into the low 30's. It's not unusual to see the local hills with a light dusting of snow for Christmas. We are located out in the country a bit, in the town of Penngrove, and with the exception of one neighbor, we are surrounded by rolling hills and horse pasture on all sides. We are a 5 minute drive to anything you might need, be it a drug store, coffee, restaurants, tavern, movie theater, market, pack 'n ship, hardware store, post office or hospital. If quiet is what you are looking for, you will have found it here. Each afternoon you will be treated to a sun setting into the eucalyptus grove across the field, and an evening sky full of stars. Each morning, you can enjoy a big mug of locally roasted, fresh brewed coffee on your patio, or take a short 10 minute walk down to our local coffee house/cafe, JavAmore', for a wonderful breakfast, either way, it's hard to beat a Sonoma morning. BREAKING NEWS!!!!!!!! In addition to all that, our little downtown used to have a burger joint, small market and a nursery, but there was a fire in the historic all wood building and it took out all 3 businesses. But now, from the ashes, has emerged a new, much larger market with a farm to table cafe inside, along with a coffee bar. It's an awesome full service little market with a great local beer and wine selection, along with indoor and outdoor seating. It's adjacent to the Penngrove Park if you or your dog needs to stretch your legs. The guesthouse is non-smoking. If you are a light smoker, you are welcome to smoke on the patio with the sliding door closed. If you are a heavy smoker, due to the 32 night minimum, the smell of smoke attaches itself to you and your clothes, and then could transfer to the sofa and the bed, we don't want that smell in the guesthouse. We kindly ask that you book elsewhere. If we smell smoke inside the guesthouse, you will be charged for a professional service such as Coit to come in and deodorize the space. The kitchen has everything you would need to cook for a family of 4, with granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances. The kitchen is stocked with some basics: Full spice rack Organic Coffee Beans and Grinder Assorted Tea's Organic Sugar, Creamer, Honey Ketchup, Mustard, Relish, Mayo, BBQ Sauce, Butter, Jam, Olive Oil etc. Bagels and Bread in the freezer, with Eggs and Cream Cheese in the fridge. And an assortment of Beer's, Soda's, Water's, Juice's, Iced Coffee's, and Snack's are provided so if you are starving when you arrive, you have something to munch on while you get settled. The bedroom has recessed lighting, air conditioning, ceiling fan, flat screen TV, and a closet for all of your gear. It has a queen size bed with night stands and a large dresser. The bathroom is truly special, with a restored 120 yr old claw-foot tub, and an antique dresser turned bath vanity with a custom stone vanity top. The living room is furnished with a super comfy sofa, (queen size sofa bed), coffee table, ceiling fan, gas fire place, Bluetooth speaker, old school record player with over 100 vinyl records, 50 inch flat screen Smart TV with cable and DVR to pause and/or record your favorite shows, and free dedicated, (no signal sharing! Yay!!), Wi-Fi. For your safety, our guesthouse is equipped with a first aid kit, smoke detectors, a Co2 detector and 2 fire extinguishers and emergency lighting, (both wall mounted and hand held), if there is a power outage. We get lots of inquiries, check the availability calendar to see if it's open for the dates you are looking for, and again, sorry about the 32 night minimum, our hands are tied. AGAIN........ DUE TO THE FACT THAT WE HAVE A 32 NIGHT MINIMUM, AND NO NIGHTLY OR WEEKLY RATES, THE POSTED NIGHTLY RATE ON THE CALENDAR IS NOW EQUAL TO THE PREVIOUS DISCOUNTED MONTHLY RATE AND NOW INCLUDES THE USE OF THE WASHER AND DRYER. Rate's are for 2 guests, there is a 4 person maximum, with the additional guest's @ $20 per person/per night. Interaction with guests is as much or as little as they would like. Chuck works from home and is around most of the time to help in any way, or answer any questions. Adora is around most late afternoons and on weekends. Quiet, quiet, and more quiet. We are a 1 mile walk to Downtown Penngrove which has: The Penngrove Market and farm-to-table cafe, rising from the ashes after a fire two years ago, is open 7 days a week. It's a great place to stop for all the basics or a quick bite to eat. Caprara's Pizza and Italian Restaurant- Good pizza and pasta. Java Amore' Coffee Shop- Great for Breakfast or Lunch or Coffee anytime. Max's Bar and Grill- Great food with an ever changing menu. We are in the country, so the whole place is pretty quiet, yet we are a 5 minute drive to just about anything you would need, from restaurants, and grocery stores, to wineries and great antique shopping. We are not on the mountain, so no steep, dark, roads to navigate on your way home after a long day of wine tasting and sight seeing. Your parking is off street and well lit with motion sensor lights that will light up as soon as you pull in. We have a bus stop 1/2 mile from us at the end of our street, that will allow you to get anywhere in the North Bay and down into San Francisco. In addition to that, our Smart Rail System eventually will allow you to go from here 40 miles North and 40 miles South, allowing you to head North and do some great wine tasting, or head South to Larkspur and catch the Ferry into San Francisco. All without ever getting behind the wheel and driving. As of 2021, you can get from San Rafael South of us to Santa Rosa North of us, about 35 miles total from North to South. Go online for a schedule of service and pricing. We are in an excellent location to stay if you are relocating to the area, or coming for an extended work trip. Our guesthouse is very comfortable for any length stay from 32 nights to 6 months or more. The fully outfitted kitchen has had many a Thanksgiving Dinner, (Yes, there is a roasting pan for your turkey, and everything else you would need to prepare a feast). Again in case you missed it above; Comes with free access to a Sonoma County Parks Pass, gaining you access to any of the local Sonoma County Parks which would cost from $7-$10 per day. You will have miles and miles of hiking, biking, or horse trails, as well as access to several lakes and wetlands. Access to washer and dryer included. Reasonable pets are $200 per month/per pet. Additional guests after the first two are $20 per night/per guest up to a total of 4. Folks who are relocating here or on temporary work assignments have stayed with us from 32 days to over a year, many of our guests have stayed with us before and are coming back to pick up their exploring where they left off. We take great care of our guests and have remained friends with many of them.
