Forest Cottage Studeno (1857) as a small open-air museum is a refuge in the middle of a large forest botanical and zoological garden between the Kolpa River and Kočevje. Perfect for nature lovers and creative getaways. The space The cottage offers 166 m² of thoughtfully designed living space that blends contemporary comfort with unique character. The ground floor features a modern, fully equipped kitchen with a glass stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, electric oven, microwave, and a traditional wood-burning stove that can be used for both heating and cooking. Also located on the ground floor is a distinctive “Yugo-nostalgic” room with two beds, filled with a curated collection of practical and artistic objects from the former Yugoslavia. According to an elderly resident of a nearby village, Josip Broz Tito, the former leader of Yugoslavia, once spent a night in Cottage Studeno during one of his bear-hunting trips, adding a touch of local legend and history to the place. Guests are often fascinated by the unusual interior details, including a unique collection of lamps made from unexpectedly repurposed materials and handcrafted wooden door handles, each one different. Both the interior and exterior corridors are built using more than 50 different types of wood, all carefully labelled with their Latin and Slovene names, making the cottage a small living exhibition of craftsmanship and nature. Parking is available for multiple cars. The cottage is conveniently located just 15 minutes by car from the Kolpa River and the town of Kočevje, while Ljubljana can be reached in approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Guest access Guests have full access to the entire property, including the main cottage, the glamping house, and all indoor (sauna,...) and outdoor facilities. During their stay, guests can enjoy the billiard room, a dedicated area for bowls (balinčkanje), and a family swing located by the pond. All spaces are private and exclusively available to guests, ensuring complete comfort, freedom, and a truly relaxing stay in nature. Other things to note Guests are required to pay the local tourist tax for the Municipality of Kočevje, which is not included in the accommodation price. The tax amounts to €2.50 per adult per day and €1.25 per child per day. Payment is made in cash, and an official receipt will be issued.
