Description
A lovingly restored one-bedroom cottage in the original dairy building dating back to 1680. The Old Dairy is at tranquil Ickwell Bury, where a small-scale farm is managed alongside being home to a quiet, friendly community. The Old Dairy offers fantastic views over the 35 acres of park land that surround Ickwell Bury. It is a light and airy property and both the bedroom and living room have French patio doors opening on to the terrace with a view of the historic courtyard. The space The bedroom features a super king size bed with Egyptian cotton bedding and Hypnos mattress and the bathroom, fitted with bath and shower, is en-suite. The kitchen has all the equipment needed for making most meals and it is well-stocked with essentials. We also provide organic milk, orange juice, a selection of teas, coffee, cereals, kitchen essentials, a fresh fruit bowl and we bring freshly-baked croissants on your first morning (if you like). There is super-fast fibre WiFi throughout the property and a washing machine if needed. All of the rooms are on the ground floor and there are no internal steps. The terrace offers a secluded, sunny spot adjacent to the property. There is a table and chairs with a parasol, as well as a barbecue which you are welcome to use. We will supply everything you need to use it. The property is great for exploring the surrounding area, including Bedford (a 10 min drive) and Cambridge (35 min drive away). Further afield, it is easy to get to London by train (approximately 30 – 40 min). Just 10 minutes by car we have the RSPB headquarters at Sandy; the amazing Wrest Park garden owned and managed by English Heritage is a 25 minute drive away; The Shuttleworth Collection is on our doorstep, including regular weekend flying displays of old aircraft that can be watched from The Old Dairy; and we are surrounded by beautiful villages, including our village, Ickwell, as well as Old Warden and Northill. There are lots of walking and cycling opportunities nearby and I will be happy to give tips for where to go. If you are looking for good, local produce, Franklins of Thorncote Farm Shop and Butchers is a 5 minutes' drive away. Our local town, Biggleswade, about 10 minutes’ drive away (or 20 min cycle) has a wide range of shops, including supermarkets. We are a dog-friendly community and you are very welcome to bring up to two dogs to stay at the property. Guest access The Old Dairy is completely self contained and is for your sole occupation whilst you are our guests. You are welcome to walk across our fields and use the outside seating and barbecue on the terrace adjacent to the property. At the end of our track is the pretty village of Ickwell with its large, open green dotted with historic oak trees.
