Cozy yet roomy house - windows everywhere! Relax on a large private deck under a giant tree surrounded by bamboo. We are a 5 minute walk to town (bars, restaurants, market, and the ferry) and 5 minutes to the ocean. Enjoy the use of bicycles, beach chairs, towels and a wagon. Large outdoor shower to use after a day at the beach - plus two showers inside. Spacious open kitchen - great for cooking and socializing. You will love this house! This is a comfortable house. You walk up a switchback ramp onto a large deck and directly into the main living room. Off that room is the master bedroom suite (2 steps up) with private bathroom (though the washer/dryer are located there) and it's own door to the deck. The second bedroom is off the main living room as is the second bathroom (there is also a door that connects this bedroom directly to the bathroom). The kitchen is spacious with high quality cookware and lots of appliances/utensils to cook pretty much anything. There is also a propane grill on the deck. There is a front room with cathedral ceilings, another couch and a small dining table. Cozy and comfortable, but never feels cramped! The entire house will be available for use. You will also have access to 3 bikes. We can be in touch through the app but I will also be available on my cell phone. Ocean Beach is the biggest town on Fire Island. There is a busy restaurant and bar scene during the summer (and a few spots stay open year round as well). There are also some clothing stores and other markets. There is yoga on the weekends (ask me if you’re interested), and a playground. There is another playground near the house behind the public school a few blocks alway. Wilmot Road is one of the quietest streets in Ocean Beach - because it ends at the bay rather than at the busy main street. So you are close to action but no closer than you want to be! To get to Ocean Beach you either drive to Bay Shore, Long Island or take the LIRR there. If you are taking the train, there are always shuttle buses (white buses called David's Taxi) waiting for the trains during the summer months. For $6 they will take you the 1 mile drive to the ferry terminal. REMEMBER that you are going to OCEAN BEACH. There is another town called Ocean Bay Park - names can get easily confused - that leaves out of a different ferry terminal (across the road). If you end up there, it is about a 20-25 min walk to Ocean Beach. Not the end of the world, but might be annoying if you have just arrived with luggage. Water Taxi: If you want to explore more of Fire Island beyond what is easy to walk to, the Water Taxi is a great option. Run by the same people as the ferry, you will see their phone number printed on any ferry schedule. In the summer they run a regular shuttle service up a down the island until 2 am or so. So if you want to go to a club in Cherry Grove one night, just call them and find out when they are stopping in Ocean Beach (usually once a hour). Its not cheap - depends on how far away you are going - but its a fast, fun ride! You can also hire a Water Taxi from Bay Shore if you miss the last ferry - it might cost $130 or more, but it is an option. If this does happen, try to find more people to share the cost Ocean Beach (unfortunately) has pretty strict rules about the use of bicycles during the summer. Those are posted on the refrigerator. These rules are enforced, especially in "downtown" Ocean Beach. But before July 4th and after Labor Day you can bike anywhere. You can also walk the bikes through OB during the peak times but then ride once you get to the next town where there are no rules You are close to all the markets in the town of Ocean Beach. The Pantry is just a few blocks away (you will likely pass it on your walk to the house from the ferry). If you want better quality and selection, the Seaview Market is the best option. Its the next town over - about 12 min walk if you are on foot, a 5 min bike ride.
