Welcome to Upstairs at The Crown at Chilton. Located just three minutes from the major A34 trunk road, joining the M4 and M40 motorways, the three-bedroomed self-contained property is above the pub in the centre of picturesque Chilton village is perfectly located for a wide variety of uses, whether pleasure, work, or both. Very close to both Harwell Innovation Campus and Rutherford Laboratories, it’s approximately 20 minutes drive to either Oxford or Newbury, and 60-75 minutes to London. The space Welcome to our brand new apartment rental - Upstairs at The Crown. Fully renovated in 2026, the spacious apartment includes three well-appointed bedrooms with hotel-grade Simba mattresses, one superking bed (Hawkstone), one king bed (Deya), one double bed (Guinness) and large lounge (Theakston). Also in the apartment is a compact kitchen-diner, fully equipped for your stay, plus a modern bathroom with shower and bath. All of this is accessed by a set of outside stairs leading up to a private entrance. With rooms inspired by our favourite breweries, contemporary design, and beautiful furnishings, it’s the most comfortable place to enjoy and relax in. Bedroom 1 - Hawkstone A spacious superking room, with relaxing armchair and beautiful Victorian fireplace (non-functioning), chest of drawers, open wardrobe, shelving and mood lighting and a large Samsung Smart TV. Inspired by Jeremy Clarkson’s Hawkstone brewery in the nearby Cotswolds. Featuring tributes to farming in general, and the Clarkson’s Farm series, with memorabilia, books and more to enjoy. Bedroom 2 - Deya Inspired by Cheltenham’s finest craft brewery Deya. A king-sized bedroom with armchair, period fireplace (non-functioning), chest of drawers, clothes hanging space, shelving, mood lighting, phone charging sockets and a Samsung Smart TV. Bedroom 3 - Guinness The cosiest of our rooms, but plenty of space for a double bed and some classic Guinness artwork and historic memorabilia in tribute to the black stuff, our best-selling stout downstairs... Featuring a clothes hanging space, shelving, mood lighting, phone charging sockets and a Samsung Smart TV. The Theakston Lounge A large lounge with seating for eight with a huge Samsung Smart TV, vintage chesterfield sofas, record player and bluetooth sound system, mood lighting and a reproduction of a classic 1950s bar with historic pub memorabilia, this room is sponsored by our friends at Theakston brewery in Yorkshire. The perfect place to relax with friends or family. Guest access Full access to the whole apartment. Key Lockbox The code for the key lockbox located outside the main door to the apartment will be given to you on arrival. We encourage you to keep the key in this lockbox when not inside the apartment. Please note that lost keys will be charged at £25 each for replacement. Check In & Check Out Times Check in time is 3pm. Check out time is 11am. A late check out may be possible if the apartment it not booked the following day, please ask us for more information. Pub Opening Times Monday to Friday 11am-close Saturday 12 noon – midnight Sunday 12 noon – 6pm Food Service Times Monday 11-3 & 5-9pm Saturday 12-9pm Sunday 12-6pm Extra Guests Please ensure you always let us know on arrival if you are more than 6 people. If there is more than 6 in your party, you are welcome to use the sofas in the lounge, and we will provide bedding and towels. Please note make a small charge of £20 per person, per stay, to cover laundry hire costs. Payments If you have booked through an online platform, you will have made payment to them. If you have booked directly, we will ask you to make payment before or on your day of arrival. Any extras can be charged to you, and paid for at the end of your stay. We accept all debit and credit cards, cash and bank transfers. VAT invoices are available upon request. Parking Please ensure you park considerately outside the premises, as we don’t have a car park, and harmonious relationships with our neighbours is always paramount. CCTV A CCTV camera is located immediately outside the door to the apartment, for your security. Cancellations Policy Cancellations are accepted as per Airbnb standard terms and conditions. Fire Safety Fire information and evacuation instructions are provided in the kitchen as well as in each room. Please take a moment to read them and ensure you are familiar with your nearest exit in case of fire. The main fire alarm is located in the kitchen, please follow the instructions in the very unlikely event of fire. Additional smoke detectors are provided in each bedroom and the lounge, as well as a smoke detector and carbon monoxide alarm in the kitchen. Children Children are very welcome in the apartment, but please note that parents or guardians are fully responsible for their safety, both inside the apartment and on the outside stairs. Please also ensure they are kept away from roller blinds mechanisms. Children are very welcome inside the pub until 9pm. Smoking Smoking is strictly forbidden inside the apartment, under any circumstances. If we discover smoking has taken place, regretfully we reserve the right to charge a £250.00 fee for full deep cleaning of the apartment. If you wish to smoke, please use the outside areas. The use of candles is also strictly not permitted in the premises under our insurance, for reasons of fire prevention. Dogs For the comfort of other guests, we are unable to accommodate any dogs or any other pets in the apartment, at any time. Noise We are a thriving country pub, and are generally not busy after 9pm evenings during the week and 11pm at weekends, unless we are holding occasional events, which are displayed on our website. While our customers are not a noisy bunch, we can’t guarantee total silence before closing times, but our staff will always ensure pub guests know to keep noise to a minimum. In order not to disturb pub guests and our local neighbours, please keep sound levels to a reasonable level at all times. Facilities Breakfast Breakfast is available inside the pub from 11am. Food & Drink Food menus and drinks list are provided in the apartment. TVs Smart TVs are provided in each room, please use live streaming via the apps to watch live TV. Please feel free to log in with your own Netflix or Prime memberships, but please ensure you sign out at the end of your stay, for your own security. Sound System / Record Player A record deck and a selection of classic vinyl albums are available for your enjoyment. Please take care when using them. Bluetooth is available by pairing your phone to the receiver so you can play your own music through Spotify etc. Instructions are provided. Lighting LED lighting can be controlled from the individual remote controls provided in each room. Individual lights have switches marked for your convenience. Blinds Both privacy and blackout blinds are provided in all bedrooms, for your convenience. Towels & Bed Linen Towels are provided in each bedroom. If you would like extra towels, please let us know. If your stay is seven nights or longer, we’ll change your sheets at the end of each week as well as replace all towels. We can also arrange a cleaner for longer stays if required – please ask us for more information. Hot Drinks A variety of teas and infusions, plus hot chocolate and biscuits are supplied for your enjoyment. We offer excellent coffee from local company Dark Horse Roastery. Please let us know if you like these items replenishing. Decaffeinated coffee and tea is available from the bar upon request, as are a full range of barista coffees, which are also available to take away. Kitchenette The kitchenette is intended for guests staying with us for longer periods, and is perfect for heating up food and preparing simple dishes, should you wish. Included is a double convection hob, fridge and small freezer, oven, dishwasher and sink. Tea towels are provided in the kitchen drawer. As we’ve got such a great food menu downstairs, we’d love it you kicked back and relax and dined with us so you can enjoy the full Crown experience. Or feel free to enjoy anything from our menu delivered up to you upstairs. If you are cooking, for the comfort of future guests, please use the extractor fan and kindly refrain from preparing strong-smelling ingredients like fish. Dishwasher On your day of departure, we’d really appreciate it if you fill the dishwasher with any dirty glasses and plates, add a tablet, switch it on, and empty the fridge of any food you have in the bin. Please also ensure all appliances and lights are switched off, and windows are closed. Beer Pumps Please note that the beer pumps in each room are for display only and are not functional, except the beer taps in the kitchen. The double beer taps in the kitchen can be made operational directly from our cellar if you pre-order a keg of beer for you and your party to enjoy during your stay. This can either be a 30 or 50 litre keg (52 or 88 pints). We can also cask beer in 36 or 72 pints If you purchase a keg it will be sold to you at 25% less than pub prices. We may ask for you to commit to a whole keg depending on the product, especially for more obscure beers. We have a list of over 500 beers available. As we keep good stocks of beer, if you arrive here and fancy buying a keg or cask, we should be able to offer you some good options, just ask. Toiletries Complimentary toiletries and our in-house fragrance are provided by local company Lords Fragrance. If you’d like to purchase hand soap, shower gel, body lotion, and more, please ask at the bar. Minibar A selection of beers are available for purchase within the apartment. If you use any, please let us know when you check out, so we can add them to your account. Please ask us if you’d like us to stock a wider minibar for you – we also offer a wide variety of drinks at shop prices inside the pub for your enjoyment during your stay, as well as fresh milk. Fireplaces Please be aware that all the fireplaces in the accommodation are non-functional, and for decorative purposes only. Cleaning Materials Cleaning materials are provided under the sink in the bathroom for your convenience. Heating/Hot Water Central heating is provided throughout the apartment. The boiler is located in the locked cupboard in the kitchen. In the unlikely event of breakdown, please let us know immediately so we can access the cupboard and reset it. The thermostat is located to the right of the bathroom door. Hot water is provided from a tank within the apartment. Hairdryer A hairdryer is provided and is located in the drawers in the Hawkstone room. Fans Fans are provided for hot weather. If they are not already in your room, and you would like them, please ask when checking in. Ice Please ask us if you’d like some complimentary ice during opening hours - there is an icebox at the top of the fridge to store it in. First Aid Kit A first aid kit is provided in the bottom drawer in the kitchen. Please let us know at the end of the stay if you have used it in any way, so we can ensure it is replenished. Breakages We understand that accidents happen – if a breakage or spillage happens during your stay, please let us know. We reserve the right to charge for any items not reported. Please also let us know if anything is not working, and we’ll put it right. During the Night The pub is not occupied by staff at night. We are pleased to offer a 10% discount off food and drink for our guests dining at The George at Upton. Please call them for reservations. Railway Station The nearest station is Didcot Parkway and is approximately 5 miles from us. It offers direct trains to London in as little as 35-40 mins, or to Oxford in approximately 25 minutes. Taxis 001 and Uber are the best options GoGreen taxis tend to be much more expensive, so we don’t generally use them.
