Château Orangeries, pool, hammam & sauna
Description
The space The château has belonged to the same family story for more than a thousand years, since the time of the Crusades and Godfrey of Bouillon. Centuries have passed and generations have succeeded one another, yet the château has always remained a lived-in home, never transformed into a mere backdrop. It still stands today at the heart of its parkland, which slopes gently down towards the River Somme. In 1984, the château was officially listed as a Historic Monument. Welcome to Suzanne. You may come here for a few days of rest, nature and contemplation. Above all, you will discover a home where we believe in welcoming guests with simplicity, warmth and care. It is now my turn to welcome you, with a smile and discretion, as I would friends, and above all to continue what the estate has always been: a place for living, gathering and sharing happiness. Suzanne is a place of absolute peace and serenity, created for reconnecting, resting and enjoying the surroundings at their own pace. For this reason, parties and noisy events are not hosted here. Come and live within history and, for a few days, forget about time. Pascal ********** THE ORANGERIES You will be staying in the Orangeries, offering approximately 150 m² of living space and opening southwards onto the park and the château. Built in 1778 and completely restored in 2026, they stand on a secluded terrace overlooking the estate. On the ground floor, an entrance hall leads into a fully equipped kitchen, designed for the house to be enjoyed naturally, with everything required for proper meals shared together and the luxury of taking your time. The living and dining room form the heart of the house. Above them rises a spectacular dome, embellished with gold leaf by the artist Franck Follaco, whose work notably includes decorative elements in the Jardin d’Hiver at the Hôtel de Crillon in Paris. More than a decorative feature, the dome gives the room its light, its character and its distinctive atmosphere, where eighteenth-century architecture meets a resolutely contemporary artistic creation. Three bedrooms beneath the original timber frame Upstairs, a stone spiral staircase dating from 1778 leads to three independent bedrooms of approximately 16 m² each. The historic timber structure has been fully revealed, preserving the height and beauty of the original volumes. Each bedroom has its own private shower room and WC. Two overlook the park and the château; the third looks onto the former farm courtyard, now planted with trees and greenery. A dedicated workspace completes the upper floor. Outside, a large south-facing terrace extends the house towards the estate. In fine weather, generous wrought-iron sofas, parasols, a barbecue and a dining table make it a place to enjoy from morning until evening. Breakfast in the sunshine, a leisurely lunch, an aperitif overlooking the château. The freedom to rediscover your own rhythm. A SWIMMING POOL BENEATH THE VAULTED CEILINGS On the lower level lie the historic spaces where the estate’s orange and lemon trees were once sheltered during the winter months. Beneath their sweeping brick vaults, almost 160 m² have been completely restored and devoted to wellbeing. On one side is a very large indoor swimming pool, heated throughout the year to between 28 and 30°C. On the other, a spacious relaxation area with daybeds. Old brick, deep grey polished concrete, soft lighting and warm water create an exceptionally enveloping atmosphere. The space is available 365 days a year. A few lengths first thing in the morning, a swim after a long walk, or the simple pleasure of slipping into water at almost 30°C in the depths of winter. The pool soon becomes part of the natural rhythm of your stay. SAUNA, HAMMAM AND GYM In an outbuilding just a few steps away, a fully equipped gym of approximately 80 m² is at your disposal, with strength and cardio equipment, rowing machines, a bike, free weights, benches and accessories, together with changing facilities and a shower. Adjoining it, a further 30 m² wellness area contains a sauna opening onto the outdoors and a hammam, each accommodating six to eight people. Swim, move, breathe — and then make no plans at all. THE PARK, THE SOMME AND THE FOREST The estate extends over 11 fully enclosed hectares along the banks of the River Somme, within a protected natural environment. Around 300 metres from the Orangeries, a small waterside chalet sits directly on the riverbank. Walk down in the morning for a coffee, organise a picnic, read a book, share an aperitif, or simply sit and watch the Somme flow past while your thoughts drift with it. Herons, swans, ducks, geese and coots are familiar visitors here. An adjoining private forest of eight hectares extends the estate, with long avenues of lime trees where deer and wild boar can sometimes be glimpsed. At Suzanne, nature begins at your doorstep. DISCOVERING THE SURROUNDING AREA Suzanne is a wonderful base from which to explore the Somme Valley. Cyclists can join the Somme Valley cycle route, which follows the river for some 200 kilometres through landscapes, villages and protected natural areas, all the way to Saint-Valéry-sur-Somme on the coast, approximately 75 kilometres away. From April to October, the Jardin de Lilith, just 100 metres from the château, is also well worth a visit, with more than 2,000 varieties of plants spread across nearly 3,000 m². The Somme is also one of Europe’s great landscapes of remembrance from the First World War, with eleven UNESCO World Heritage sites nearby. The château itself has a remarkable connection with this period, having hosted the Franco-British military command. Simple moments, offered in the spirit of Suzanne: sharing the things we love. And, of course, you can also come here and decide, quite simply, to do absolutely nothing at all.
