Tucked within the grounds of one of the Isle of Wight's most extraordinary private estates, a working vineyard, historic gardens and a manor house that is quietly returning to its former glory, The Coach House has been reimagined. Not simply a holiday cottage. Not a boutique hotel. Something altogether its own. You arrive through the estate gates and the world slows down. By the time you reach The Coach House, with its vast Crittall windows catching the light and the manor house standing quietly behind you, something has already shifted. Step inside and you find yourself in a living room that manages to feel both grand and deeply comfortable. A sweeping staircase, a large corner sofa, a beautiful bookshelf and original shutters framing doors that open out to the estate grounds. The Crittall windows flood the space with light from every angle. The kitchen is vast and beautifully considered, it centres around a large island beneath which you'll find everything you could possibly need, brand new OXO utensils, Denby and Neptune crockery, Daylesford glassware, Smeg appliances. An AGA anchors the room with warmth. A dining table seats eight comfortably, and beyond it a second seating area with two armchairs and a sofa framing a large hearth with a log burner, inviting you to linger long after the meal is done. The four bedrooms are each considered and calm. The master suite occupies its own world, a four poster king bed, ensuite bathroom and the kind of stillness that makes you want to stay in bed until noon. Two further double bedrooms and a twin room share a generous family bathroom with both bath and shower. A ground floor WC completes the picture. Outside, the estate grounds unfold around you with extraordinary peace. The vineyard is tucked just behind, its rows of carefully tended vines producing what is becoming one of the finest Pinot Noirs in the United Kingdom. Outdoor seating sits beneath the open sky. The interiors throughout are layered, naturalistic and deeply considered. Mid century modern in spirit, quiet luxury in feel and utterly unlike anything else on the island. Nothing here has been chosen without great thought. Gatcombe Estate sits in the rural heart of the Isle of Wight, a short drive from the island's finest beaches, coastal walks, sailing and villages. The island itself is reached by ferry from the mainland and there is a moment, somewhere on the water, when you stop looking back. The Coach House sleeps eight across four bedrooms and is managed by Hostd Homes, whose team is available throughout your stay for anything you need.
