But if you want a good-value, comfortable cottage in a fantastic location, close to the beach and surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the country, then we’d love to welcome you. It’s a place to kick off your walking boots, dry the dog, make a cup of tea and relax after a day exploring. Other things to note The cottage is all about location, value and having a comfortable place to come back to after a day of adventures. It’s not a luxury retreat — it’s a proper, homely holiday cottage, perfect for families, walkers, beach lovers and anyone wanting to experience this quieter corner of the Lake District without spending a fortune. The Beach Silecroft Beach is right on your doorstep, with miles of open coastline and spectacular views across the Irish Sea. It’s a fantastic spot for a morning walk, letting the kids run off some energy, watching the sunset or simply getting some fresh sea air. The area is also known for Cumbrian Heavy Horses, which offer beach horse-riding experiences at Silecroft. (Visit Lake District) Explore the Western Lake District You’re perfectly placed to explore some of the most spectacular — and often quieter — parts of the Lake District. Within easy reach are: Wastwater – England’s deepest lake, surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery. Scafell Pike – England’s highest mountain, with the Wasdale area providing one of the classic routes to the summit. Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway – Take a ride on the famous narrow-gauge steam railway, affectionately known as La’al Ratty, travelling from the coast into beautiful Eskdale. (Visit Lake District) Muncaster Castle – Historic castle, gardens, events and its famous Hawk & Owl Centre. (Visit Lake District) Ravenglass Roman Bath House – Explore remarkably well-preserved Roman remains close to the coast. (Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway) Stanley Ghyll Waterfall – A beautiful woodland walk and waterfall in Eskdale. Eskdale – A stunning Lakeland valley with walks, pubs, rivers and spectacular mountain scenery. Eskdale Mill – The Lake District’s last remaining working water-powered corn mill. (Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway) Seascale Beach – Another lovely stretch of Cumbrian coastline nearby. Drigg Beach – Wild, open coastline and a great place for a peaceful walk. Black Combe – Right on your doorstep compared with many of the Lake District’s bigger mountains, with fantastic views across the coast and surrounding countryside. Millom – The nearest town, with shops, pubs and local amenities. Whitehaven – A historic harbour town with maritime history, museums and plenty of places to eat. St Bees – Beautiful coastal village and the starting point for the famous St Bees Head coastal walk. Cockermouth – Historic market town and birthplace of William Wordsworth. Wild Ennerdale – One of the more remote and unspoilt corners of the Lake District. And, of course, the wider Lake District National Park is waiting to be explored, with mountains, lakes, waterfalls, woodland walks and picturesque villages all within reach. (Visit Lake District) Leave the Car Behind One of the best things about the cottage is the train station being just a minute away. Silecroft sits on the scenic Cumbrian Coast Line, so you can explore parts of the coast without having to drive everywhere — ideal for walkers, couples and families looking for a more relaxed break.
