Maneys Tower
Torre de Maneys
Poets' Tower in Óbidos
Description
Torre de Maneys is two buildings linked by an enclosed bridge across the street. The main house in stone, dating from the XVI century, is believed to have been a former storage tower of the Castle of Óbidos. The space In the tower are the common rooms of the house, distributed on two floors and an upper gallery (library). Due to topography, we can enter it from each floor and through various doors, thus enjoying a very particular relationship with the town. The dining room and kitchen are on the lower floor, and both extend outside, to the town square and street. The upper floor has a room with a fireplace, it is my favourite reading place in winter evenings. The double height library with the gallery is the main room in the house and best for gatherings, watching a movie or listening to music. Most of the books are on the stacks on the upper gallery, ready to browse. There are fiction and poetry in portuguese, english, french and spanish, and a few in italian. From this gallery you access the bridge to the other side of the house, where you will find most of the rooms. Guest access Guests have access to the whole house. Breakfast is only served to guests staying on a room by room basis, and is served in the dining room next to the kitchen. When renting the whole house no breakfast is provided. However you may ask for breakfast at the additional cost of 12€ per person The terrace overlooks the town and the fields beyond. The pergola provides shade, and a place to sit and read or just relax. It is a good place for drinks. The patio is one of the entrances to the house, and is a sheltered place to enjoy siting outside In both of these places one can watch a good movie in a summer night. Other things to note Circulation inside the house requires going up and down stairs, to go from one building to the other. It is an old building with open banisters, not appropriate for small children. Bedrooms vary in size, and some are small: this is a renovated medieval house. Registration Details RNET-5773
