Description

Dun Eistein is a traditional family house in the crofting village of Northton in South Harris. The house is not on a croft but there is a small garden with picnic table, chairs and bench. Harris is an island of contrasts in the Outer Hebrides and boasts some wonderful beaches. Although named the Isle of Harris, it is in fact the southern part of Lewis and Harris. The northern part of Harris is hilly, the east is rocky with numerous lovely bays and the south west is flatter with many fine beaches. Northton is a good base from which to explore the island and from which to visit some of the other islands. The house is generally child friendly and games, books and dvds are available for your use. There is a small range of wellington boots (the sun doesn’t always shine!), buckets and spades in the porch. Accommodation on the ground floor consists of a new, well equipped kitchen with electric range, washing machine, dishwasher, tumble drier, fridge freezer and microwave with dining room off. There is also a lounge, sitting room and shower room. On the upper floor are two double bedrooms, one twin bedroom, one bunk bedroom and bathroom. Extra single folding bed available. Beds have continental quilts and all bed linen and towels are provided. Oil central heating, which is included in the cost as well as electricity, ensures a warm, comfortable home. There is no terrestrial TV reception but satellite is available. Wireless internet included. Dogs: As a result of extensive damage on two occasions, we are no longer able to accept dogs. Beaches: Harris is well known for its beautiful, sandy beaches one of which is in walking distance. Fishing: Obbe Fishings and Rodel Fishery are both nearby. Kilda Cruises: Day trips to St Kilda leave from Leverburgh. St. Kilda has Unesco Dual World Heritage status for natural and cultural importance. Harris Outdoor Adventure Centre: offers trips and tuition in Sea/surf kayaking, Sailing (open 25ft boat), Land yachting (beach sailing), Coasteering. Walking: Walks on Northton Machair, gentle strolls on the beach or more challenging hillwalking. Weaving: Find out about Harris Tweed and maybe see it being woven. (The house is looked after by Becca [See Taobh Tuath Tweeds] who is a weaver of Harris Tweed. If you’d like to find out more about Clò Mòr (The Big Cloth), she is just along the road and will give you plenty information.)
