Description

Take a step back in time and stay in this unique, beautiful old stone house, set on a steep mountain slope, surrounded by woods and terraces, ideal for walkers and nature lover's. A glorious sandy beach with two shipwrecks is a twenty five min. drive away. In the winter the Stone House has a wood burning fire making it an accommodation which is suitable for holidays in all seasons, especially walking holidays, each season having it's own special charm. Four marked walks start from Arni itself. The space The Stone House was originally the old grape press and store room of a large house and has now been converted into a delightful little ‘cottage’ with a living /sleeping area, a kitchen and a bathroom. The sleeping area includes two adjoining single beds,(like a double) suitable either for two single people or a couple with a third settee/bed in the sitting area, suitable for a child or third adult. A large old wooden table can be used either for eating or working on the computer, and in spite of being in a mountain village there is good internet connection and a signal for mobile phones. The adjoining kitchen is in a separate room next door with a fridge, sink, a 3 ring gas cooker, a sandwich maker, an electric kettle, a coffee maker, frying pans, saucepans and all necessary kitchen equipment. The bathroom has a shower with the shower ‘tray’ set into the rocks, a wash basin with a mirror and a W/C with a wonderful view of the mountain opposite. Hot water should always be available It should be remembered that this is an old building which has been restored without spoiling its original shape and atmosphere. Purposely it has not been renovated into a modern style. It has its own particular, exceptional charm and beauty which should delight the visitor. A chance to live a little in the past ! A large terrace in the front and to the side of the house enables visitors to sit outside and enjoy their meals, the views and the wonderful sunsets. There is a log fire making it suitable for winter visits. An extra fee of 5 euros is charged for a full log basket of wood. The road leads down to the house making it convenient to load or unload the car. But it's advisable to park the car on the road above the house, away from the donkeys. Bed linen, towels, tea towels etc. are provided Guest access Guests are allowed to access the whole of the Stone House, which includes living and sleeping area, kitchen and bathroom, and surrounding outside areas. Other things to note ‘Magic Mountain’ is in fact a sanctuary for rescued animals, so a holiday at the Stone House would be particularly suitable for animal lovers. The sanctuary is a home for 25 dogs, 25 cats and 9 equines. The dogs are kept free in a huge fenced in area below the owner’s house, which is below the Stone House. They sleep in the owner’s house. The cats are free to roam the entire area including the wooded area next door. The horses, mules and donkeys are free to roam on the property but are kept under control. A visitor to the Stone House would be free to either enjoy the animals or ignore the animals according to their taste. There are no neighbors, except for sheep, cows or goats, as the house is surrounded by woods and fields. No traffic noise. Arni is a wooded area with plane trees, oaks, pines, maples, chestnuts, fig trees, mulberries, apple trees, walnuts, quince trees, blackberries and so on! In years gone by it was possible to live off the fruits of the land and it is understandable why Arni became a large settlement. Nowadays it’s a naturalist’s paradise with waterfalls in the spring and streams, which run all the year round. Andros is the greenest of all the Cycladic islands (along with Naxos) with many springs all over the island. It’s also a perfect area for bird watching, with buzzards often wheeling and mewing overhead, even occasionally an eagle. Arni is in, what is considered, the wild life area of Andros.
