The garden is ecologic and organic. The region. Ask an Israeli about Zichron and they usually say it is the nicest place in Israel. "A bubble". We have a very vibrant and varied Jewish community where secular, Orthodox, Masorti (conservative), Reform get along well. We are minutes from the beach, farms, vineyards, parks, Kosher (and not) local restaurants and excellent local Arab cuisine. This is an ideal place to set up base for an extended trip, or just to spend the week. This is a great place to see and visit and experience the places that Israelis love about living here. Our area has the most rainfall in Israel which gives us both great agriculture and great greenery during the winter and spring. We are home to the famous Carmel winery (tours available) as well as others; Tishbi, Somek, Binyimina. The Tishbi winery even allows you to bring your own bottles to fill with this years fresh wine. Most wineries have wine tastings available. Zichron Yaakov is the gateway to the north of Israel. It is on the southwest ridge of the Carmel mountains, a 10 minute drive to Hof Dor, Israel’s most family friendly beach. Tel Aviv 60 minutes Haifa 60 minutes Jerusalem 1 hour 10 minutes Binyimina 10 minutes , train station Tel Aviv 33 min, Ben Gurion Airport 55 min, Jerusalem 90 min Caesarea 20 minutes Acre 45 minutes Nazareth 40 minutes Tzippori 35 minutes Hula Valley 60 minutes Of course there are supermarkets etc., but there are also local farm markets at Ofer and fresh olive oil at Kerem Maharal. Great natural food stores locally and in Pardes Hannah. Fresh bakeries and super markets 5 and 15 minutes walking. More fresh bakeries and specialty food shopping nearby. Local friendly synagogues, many flavours, all walking distance, all welcoming of newcomers. About 1 in 7 adults in Zichron are from English speaking countries or have lived in English speaking countries. The neighbour village of Furedis has Israel’s best fish and seafood market, both farmed, and in season, fresh caught. Yes, better than Acre and Jaffa. Great fresh hummus, stuffed vine leaves and other delicacies. We are surrounded by lots of parks and nature hiking trails in a 1 hour radius. Day trips: (a short list…) Mei Kedem 17 minutes (walk through the Roman built source of the Aqueduct!..bring water shoes!) Caesarea 20 minutes (Roman amphitheatre, lots of antiquities, incredible ancient port) Haifa 30 minutes (don’t miss the Bahai Gardens!) Tziporri 35 minutes (Incredible mosaics and Roman and Mishnah era buildings) Acre 50 minutes (hint: a better and friendlier market than Jerusalem. Don’t miss the Templar Crusader tour) Nazareth 45 minutes (…seriously delicious food tours!) Hula Valley 60 minutes (great nature preserve, migration of millions of birds at different seasons) …and lots more… Oh..and there’s this city called Tel Aviv an hour south of us… Our area is famous for both road and off road cycling with an excellent bike shop 5 minutes from our house. The Ramat Hanadiv / Rothschild memorial gardens are a lovely cluster of groomed gardens in various styles. The gardens can be comfortably visited with a 30 minute level paved walk but do take and extra 15 minutes to watch the film about the history of the area. Surrounding the gardens are kilometres of hiking trails in all directions with walks from 30 minutes to 4 hours. Worth seeing are a 2nd Temple area farm and homestead Horvath Aqav with one of Israel’s best vistas, a natural spring with Ottoman structures, a vulture sanctuary and lots more. You can readily walk to the gardens from our house, or from the trail head just up the road. Evenings and early mornings we hear the jackals serenading us. There are herds of goats housed in Ramat Hanadiv to eat the foliage to prevent fires. The park is home to many wild animals from hedgehogs and porcupines, deer, jackals, wild boar birds and bats and lots more. Go early to catch of glimpse! Sip a cup of wine on our balcony and listen to the nightly serenade of jackals howling. Zichron is home to the 1st Aliyah Museum, The NILI - Aronson Museum (home of Israel’s WW1 spy network) and a lovely small promenade with buildings dating back to the founding of Eretz Yisrael in 1882. Lots of great restaurants. The history of the founding of the modern State of Israel starts in Zichron. This house was built for entertaining.
