The space CURRENT EVENTS are at bottom of page: - Back-to-Back Summer Meteor Showers! ********************** We are taking extra care to both clean and disinfect your space due to COVID-19. ********************** Our Values and Mission: We looked for 2 years before purchasing Soaring Eagle. We wanted beautiful scenery, serenity (no road noise - just the wind in the trees). We wanted to see wildlife: deer, elk, antelope, fox, bobcat, etc. It has wonderful water - its own well so we are able to have a lovely garden in front of our house and grow our own food. :-) We use LED lighting in the house and solar lights outside. We work to mitigate fire danger, but trimming dead branches and removing dead trees which we use in our wood burning furnace that heats our house and also in our greenhouse and surrounding orchard and outdoor gardening to improve the soil and hold moisture for our plants – reducing our need to water. The main part of the house is heated by passive solar and a backup fireplace. Growing up in a rural farming community (Joyce) I learned a deep respect and responsibility for the land. We consider ourselves stewards of this wonderful place and offer choices to our guests to participate. Traditional paper products – paper towels, napkins – are provided so the choice is yours. - recycle - use 'paperless' paper towels and cloth napkins instead of single use paper products - add to our compost. - purchasing foodstuffs from our neighbors such as organic free-range eggs, honey, and organic greenhouse vegetables. - Grocery delivery, and home cooked meals are available for a fee from one of our neighbors. We want to assist our mountain community by providing opportunities for the community to serve you with (very) local choices and suppliers. If you are interested we will provide additional information, pricing and scheduling of these services. **************** Lodge Description: Secluded, quiet get-away, nestled in the southern Rocky Mountains, with spectacular views of the Sangre de Cristo mountains and Pikes Peak. In less than two weeks, astronomers expect back-to-back meteor showers—the Delta Aquariids and Alpha Capricornids—both dueling in the skies at the same time within the other’s range, such that you may even see shots of light crossing paths. It’s an astrophotographer’s dream come true. AccuWeather reports that we can expect to see around 20 meteors per hour at their height, but, again, they are hard to predict. And there will probably be many in the days leading up to and after peak season, because July meteors tend to ramble on steadily till early August. In August, the Perseids will hit their height from August 11 to 12, but that does not discount seeing many earlier or later. This famous shower may present up to 100 meteors per hour at peak.
