Sognefjorden is just 1,5 hour away from Hemsedal and you can take a trip over for the day to experience the magic of the fjords. Take the "Snow road" over from Lærdal to Aurland and drive on to Flåm where you can discover Nærøyfjorden and it's surroundings. One of the most beautiful train journeys in the world is the one with Flåmsbanen. Rjukandefossen, one of many impressive waterfalls in Hemsedal, is a powerful two-part waterfall, falling 18 metres through a narrow gulley. This program guides you to 20 different peaks in Hemsedal with altitudes between 804 m and 1920 m (the town centre is situated 625 meters above sea level). The Hemsila river offers top-notch opportunities for fly-fishing, while the lush and varied nature surroundings provide an ideal base for activities including hiking, climbing, cycling and horse riding. Hemsedal is known for good trout fishing. With over 18 waters and 4 rivers you got many possibilities to catch the "big one". Hemsedal is also an excellent starting point for mountain biking. At Hemsedal Skisenter you can take your bike on a chair lift up to 1,100 metres and try the downhill park, or cycle further into the mountains. The many graded and signed routes run through a scenery of majestic mountains and vigorous valleys. Stable snow conditions and plenty of ski lifts and slopes have made Hemsedal, an alpine ski resort. Hemsedal Skisenter has wide and long pistes, several terrain parks and designated areas for children. The resort as a whole also offers excellent off-piste and cross-country skiing conditions, as well as a vast repertoire of non-skiing activities like dog sledding, snowshoeing, ice climbing and horse sleigh riding.
