The space 🖤Why The Black Squirrel? The name began with a simple moment hiking in the Catskills when we spotted a black squirrel. Something about the uniqueness of the creature stuck with us. Black squirrels are uncommon, and in folklore they symbolize good fortune, adaptability, resourcefulness and positive change. We loved the idea of embracing the unexpected and being open to whatever might lie ahead. That spirit inspired The Black Squirrel. A place to slow down, explore somewhere new and enjoy whatever the mountains have in store. And if you happen to spot a black squirrel during your stay, consider it a little gift from nature, a sign that something good may be just around the corner. 💤Sleeping The renovated 1 bedroom, 1 bath condo sleeps up to 4 guests and combines modern comfort with a warm mountain feel. The bedroom features a queen bed with comfortable linens, while the living room includes a queen sleeper sofa with bedding provided. After a day on the mountain, relax by the gas fireplace, stream a favorite show or enjoy a cozy night in. Both sleeping areas have black out shades available. 🍳 Kitchen & Coffee The fully equipped kitchen includes a full-size refrigerator, stove and oven, microwave, cookware, dishes, glassware and everyday essentials. There is a large island for dining with seating for 4. A dedicated coffee and tea station makes it easy to start your mountain mornings right. 🚿 Bathroom & Laundry The renovated bathroom includes fresh towels and bath essentials. An in-unit washer and dryer are also available. Perfect after skiing, hiking or for longer Catskill getaways. 🌲 Relax & Unwind Enjoy fresh mountain air on the private patio, ideal for morning coffee or unwinding after a day of exploring. The patio overlooks the Hunter Mountain ski area parking lot, with the Catskill mountains creating a beautiful backdrop. Inside, you’ll find high-speed Wi-Fi, a Smart TV, games and books for relaxing evenings at home. ⛷️Snowy adventures Skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing are literally in your backyard. Hunter Mountain is right outside your door, with many other 3500-foot peaks and trailheads just a short drive away. Pick your next peak, hit the trail, then come home to The Black Squirrel, kick off your boots and relax by the fire. 📍 Hunter Mountain + Nearby Mountain Towns One of our favorite things about The Black Squirrel is the location. You’re right at the base of Hunter Mountain, with skiing and four-season mountain adventures in your backyard. A short walk to Dolan’s Lake at the entrance of Hunter Mountain is ideal for strolls, picnics, and mountain views. Nearby pickleball and basketball courts add family friendly outdoor fun. The colorful mountain village of TANNERSVILLE is about 7 minutes away. Spend some time exploring restaurants, cafés, local shops and the brewery. For a little nature without a big hike, wander the gardens, forests and peaceful trails at Mountain Top Arboretum. It’s a great place for an easy walk, a quiet afternoon outdoors or simply taking in the changing Catskills seasons. Head the other direction 15 minutes and you’ll find the town of WINDHAM, another charming Catskills mountain town. It features great restaurants, shops, cafés, outdoor activities and its own lively ski-town atmosphere. Guest access Guests will have private access to the entire condo and balcony. The Black Squirrel is a ground-floor unit with no stairs required for entry. Self check-in is available through a keyless-entry keypad, and two parking passes are provided for guest use during your stay.
