Louis Visconti was already famous for designing the Louvre extension and the tomb of Napoleon at Les Invalides. The Chateau was then built by Rene Honde in 1854 as a private residence for Count Rochenfoucauld and his family. Beautiful landscaped gardens, and a private lake, offset the grandeur of the stone edifice.
