1870s Farmhouse on 16 Acres · ATV Trail · Pets OK
Description
Come stay at Gentle Giant Acres, an 1870s farmhouse on 16 private acres (9 wooded) in Kingman, Maine. Sleeps 8 with a king, two queens, and a full sofa bed. Original woodwork, an antique cookstove, and a front porch made for doing nothing. Bring your ATV or side-by-side for the wooded trail, or just enjoy the quiet, dark skies, and wildlife. Fast 100 Mbps wifi. Pet-friendly. One full bath for the house, and honest farmhouse character over modern finishes. The space This two-story 1870s farmhouse has kept its original character: real woodwork, antique touches, and a beautifully preserved wood cookstove in the kitchen (decorative only, not functional). The kitchen has stainless steel countertops and all the basics: pots and pans, cooking utensils, plenty of silverware, plates, cups, and mugs. For drinking water, there’s a new 1.5-gallon stainless steel gravity filter on its own stand, with a 3-stage ultra-filtration system. Gravity filters work slowly, so fill the top chamber when you arrive and you’ll have fresh filtered water ready for drinking, coffee, and cooking. Top it off whenever you refill a glass and it’ll keep up all stay. Sleeping: Bedroom 1 has a king, Bedrooms 2 and 3 each have a queen, and Bedroom 4 has a full sofa bed. As well as couch in living room. There’s one full bathroom with vintage character. The house runs on oil heat and warms up fast. 60–62°F keeps the whole house comfortable, and the main bedroom tends to run warmest. Please keep the thermostat in that range. Wifi averages close to 100 Mbps, which is plenty for streaming or remote work, even with spotty cell service. Outside: open lawn, a front porch, a garden, and a wooded trail across the full 16 acres. Lincoln is about 40 minutes away. Bangor is about an 1.5 hrs. Bar harbor is about 2hrs. Guest access Guests have the entire farmhouse (kitchen, living room, dining area, all bedrooms, and the bathroom), plus the porch, yard, and all 16 acres. The wooded trail is open to ATVs, dirt bikes, and side-by-sides. No vehicles are provided: bring your own and ride at your own risk. Please stay on the existing trail, don’t cut new paths, and don’t cut down or clear any trees. You’re welcome to walk through and enjoy the garden, but please don’t pick, plant, or change anything. Garage keys are in the lockbox for trash disposal only. Please put all trash in the garbage cans inside the garage. The garage can’t be used to park vehicles or store anything else, and the farmstand is off-limits. Other things to note This is a real 1870s farmhouse, not a modern renovation. Expect original woodwork, some uneven floors, and small improvements in progress. One bathroom serves the whole house. A dehumidifier handles shower steam (there’s no exhaust fan), so please leave it running during and after showers. Winter in rural Maine is serious. We’ll do our best to plow the driveway, but plowing is a courtesy, not a guarantee. Please come with a vehicle suited for snow and ice, and pack for the weather. This is open country. Wildlife is common, and fall hunting seasons are active in the area. Wear blaze orange when walking or riding the trail during hunting season. There is a security camera inside the garage to protect the owner’s property. There are NO cameras inside the farmhouse. Pet fees are listed in the pricing.
