Cobbler's Cottage
Cobbler's Cottage
Description
Relax in this 17th century characterful fully restored traditional cottage in the centre of Rode village near the UNESCO city of Bath. Local scenic walks (pets welcome). Good bus links and free on street parking. Two popular local pubs with great food within very short walking distance. Post office and small shop/cafe selling great coffee, also top bakery open Friday/saturday. Great farm shop/restaurant and more one mile away. Service station half mile away including M&S Food, and Starbucks. The space This cottage is now one of 3 of what was one large building built sometime in the 17th century although the beams including the bowed galleon shaped ships beam in the living room have been carbon dated to circa 1440. The original purpose of the building was to house cattle downstairs whilst the farmers/shepherds stayed upstairs overnight in readiness to sell around the village green the following morning. You can see the old poker/branding iron marks on the buildings original fireplace in the bedroom upstairs. I have an early photograph of the house in 1902 showing the Victorian bay window and was then a blacksmith and iron mongers hence Cobblers cottage. Guest access The whole house is available apart from the locked laundry cupboard - there are cleaning products under the kitchen sink should you need them. Other things to note This is lovely period cottage with lovely period beams! Watch your head if you’re the taller type!
