Description

Stylishly decorated, spacious house in pretty Vale of White Horse village, southern edge of Cotswolds. Thoughtfully equipped and homely. Surrounded by stunning views to the Ridgeway. Great walking, village with pubs/deli/farm shop/groceries 1.5 miles away. Lovely pubs in surrounding villages. Open log fire. One king (en suite shower/WC), one double. Family bathroom/WC. Fabulous kitchen. Pets welcome, securely enclosed gardens. Friendly host. Great broadband. EV charger 100m away (cost). The space Beautifully decorated, airy rooms downstairs. Off the entrance hall, a bright and sunny drawing room by day becomes cosy at night with a large comfy sofa and two squishy leather armchairs for relaxing in front of the log fire. TV with Freeview, Netflix, DVD player and lots of DVDs. Dining room with good-sized table (perfect to double as a workspace) and four chairs. Superb selection of maps and local interest, walking and guide books. Stunning and very well equipped kitchen with pretty garden outlook. Range cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, Nespresso machine and cafetière. Cookery basics included. Utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer. Spacious, family marble bathroom with basin, WC and bath downstairs. Upstairs, beautiful master bedroom (comfortable king size bed) and en suite shower room with basin, WC and shower, plus second double bedroom. Additional comfy fold-out single bed available which can go anywhere (including the second bedroom - this is quite cosy but fun for 3 kids). Pretty, dog and child-proof, front and back cottage gardens. Sunny front garden with views of the village and National Trust countryside, table and chairs to watch the village go by with your morning coffee. Gas BBQ, table and four chairs plus two traditional deckchairs in the private walled back garden. In an area populated with stone cottages, Highlands is almost unique with its Regency architecture and high ceilings, yet it manages to be welcoming, cosy and homely. After staying in many Airbnb's, I have tried to include all the touches and facilities that I've either loved or wished for in this much-loved house. There will be a tea-time treat for your arrival and everything you need for a pot of tea or proper cup of coffee. Furnishings and decorations are antique and vintage, with quality bedding, duvets and pillows. Towels are thick and fluffy and there are Molton Brown toiletries for you to use. There is a lovely picnic hamper and rug for sunny days (plus a map of my favourite picnic spots to try) and torches for evening strolls as there's no street lighting out here! Four legged friends are welcome. There is a fluffy blanket to use as a dog bed if needed, and a hose and an old towel for after lovely muddy walks (Bourton muddy puddles are legendary in the canine world!) For rainy days and winter evenings, loads of books all over the house of all sorts, Freeview, Netflix and DVDs. More books and DVDs available in the old village phone box/library. Selection of games for all ages and a few toys for younger guests. Sonos sound system. Anything else you need or want whilst here, I can lend you - from emergency groceries to a kite or a sledge! Babysitting and dog care can usually be arranged. Guest access Situated in a pretty Cotswold stone hamlet close to the Ridgeway, lovely country pubs within 2-3 miles' walk across fields and footpaths. Explore unique prehistoric landscapes, unspoilt open countryside in the North Wessex Downs AONB and around the River Thames, Bronze Age Uffington White Horse and Wayland's Smithy. For a contrast after some rural relaxation, Oxford is about half an hour away for sights, culture and shopping (with a handy nearby coach service) and Bath is about an hour. Frequent train service to London Paddington in under an hour from Swindon station (7 miles away). Other things to note £15 discount for two guests using one bedroom only (applied after booking). Well behaved dogs welcome, downstairs only. Secure front and back gardens. Stairgate available to help canines/toddlers stay in the right place! Long stays often available - please enquire. Military personnel on courses at the Defence Academy Watchfield always welcomed, discounts often available. Please note that there will be a charge of £20 for use of the foldout bed to cover additional laundry. If bringing more than one pet, there will be an additional cleaning charge of £15.
