The space 🌿 Saunakamari at Vähähiiden Kartano – a nature retreat by the river Welcome to the historic Vähähiiden Manor House on the banks of the Hiidenjoki River in Janakkala. The Saunakamari is located on the second floor of a traditional sauna building with its own entrance, in the middle of nature, far from the hustle and bustle of the city and light pollution. 🏡 Historical manor setting The main building of Vähähiiden Kartano was built in 1897 as a hunting lodge. The history of the manor is linked to Daniel J. Waden, known as a pioneer of Finnish technology. He brought the first telephones to Finland and was involved in the early introduction of electric light. Waden also had his own dog hotel, which makes the place particularly interesting for animal lovers. 🌲 Nature begins at the doorstep In the vicinity of the manor house are Finland's deepest bog, a more than 100-year-old natural forest, a protected Natura area, and the Kalpalinna ridge area. The shore of the Hiidenjoki River is about 400 meters away, and the area offers a wonderful setting for outdoor activities, hiking, cycling, and enjoying nature. 🐾 Dog-friendly home Pets are warmly welcome. There is also Vähä-Hiisi Koirametsä in the area, where dogs can roam freely in a fenced area surrounded by nature. 🛏️ Accommodation The bright and cozy rooms provide a peaceful setting for a relaxing stay. The windows offer views of the manor's courtyard and the surrounding forest. 🍳 Kitchen The kitchen has basic supplies for heating food and preparing breakfast. You can enjoy your morning coffee in peace before the day's excursions and nature experiences. 🚻 Toilet and washing facilities There is a private toilet upstairs next to the sauna room. The shower is located in the washing facilities on the first floor of the sauna building, in the same building. 💧 Clean spring water The property uses clean spring water from the manor's own protected spring. 🚲 Getting around the area Guests have access to two bicycles and old milk carts at no extra charge. Please review the following information before booking. 🐾 The animals of the estate Vähähiiden Kartano is an animal-loving place, and the owners' pets also live on the estate. Three friendly cats roam freely on the property: * Miisu, a dark tabby * Theo, white and black with one eye surrounded by a ring * Luis, black and white The following also live in the courtyard of the manor's main building: * Dobermans Toto, Ria, and Didi * Chihuahuas Elvis and Paris, and guest star Hercules The animals are accustomed to people and are part of the daily life of the manor. The dogs mainly stay in their own area, but their presence may be seen and heard in the courtyard of the manor. If you have animal allergies, a fear of animals, or are traveling with your own pet, please take this into account when making your reservation. 🚿 Toilet and shower There is a private toilet upstairs next to the sauna room. The shower is located in the sauna washroom area on the first floor of the sauna building, in the same building. 🚪 Private entrance The sauna room is located on the second floor of the sauna building, and it has its own separate entrance from the outside. 📶 Internet access There is currently no Wi-Fi connection at the property. The mobile network in the area generally works well, depending on the carrier. 💧 Spring water Only pure spring water from the mansion's own protected spring is used on-site. Both the taps and the shower run with nature's own spring water. 🚲 Getting around the area Guests have access to two bicycles and old milk carts at no extra charge. Bicycles allow you to easily explore the surroundings of the manor, the shore of the Hiidenjoki River about 400 meters away, the Kalpalinna ridge area, and the nearby nature trails. The old milk carts make it easier to transport goods around the estate, while adding a touch of old-fashioned manor house atmosphere to your visit. 🌙 In the midst of nature The manor is located in a peaceful natural area without street lighting. On dark evenings, you can enjoy the starry sky and the silence of nature. In summer, the proximity to nature also means that insects may be present in the area. 🔥 Fireplaces and grilling Guests have access to a fireplace in the sauna dressing room and grills on the patio: * Fireplace in the sauna dressing room * Traditional yard grill * Bastard charcoal grill Firewood for the fireplace, as well as charcoal and other supplies needed for using the grills, are available for an additional fee. We ask guests to use the fireplaces and grills carefully and to follow any forest fire warnings and safety instructions. Fire pits must not be left unattended during use. The shore of the Hiidenjoki River is about 400 meters from the manor's courtyard. On the shore, you can swim, spend time on the dock, enjoy the river views, or book a riverside barbecue as an additional service.
