Enjoy the natural beauty surrounding this historic getaway. Wren Cottage is a converted barn on the beautiful Fairboroughs Farm in the Staffordshire Moorlands. The building dates back to the 1550's but the farm is earlier and can be dated to 1230. Wren Cottage was converted in 2002 to facilitate self-catering holidays. Original features were incorporated with modern facilities to make it a cosy cottage. Set on one level with ample off road parking entry to the farm is via an electric gate The space Wren cottage is a stone building with a patio area containing table and chairs. It centrally heated using renewable fuel. Wi Fi. is available. There is small entry hall leading to a sitting/dining room with patio windows. Bedroom 1 has a double bed Bedroom 2 has 2 full sized single beds. All linen is provided. The bathroom has recently been refurbed and now has a walk in shower. Over the Vanity sink there is a modern mirrored cabinet. All linen and disposables are provided. There is a fully equipped kitchen with electric cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, cooking utensils and equipment, Crockery and glassware. Linen and disposables provided. Guest access Wren cottage is accessed through an electric gate at the top of Fairboroughs Farm drive. It is at the end of a run of main buildings with ample parking opposite. It has its own entrance which is lit at night. Guests are given the keys and access fob for the gate on arrival. Other things to note Wren cottage is part of a working farm and inevitably day to day work is taking place. Over the years guests have enjoyed seeing these various activities but we do ask that they do not enter the buildings without a member of the family in attendance. As sheep famers the busiest times are lambing, shearing and sorting groups, which does not affect the cottage at all. There are chickens toddling around during the day who are friendly. The two families at the farmhouse and stable conversion have 4 very friendly dogs, 2 Spaniels Gus and Coco and 2 Labradors Harley and Tilly. The area is blessed with many types of birds from wrens to red kites and its a great day when the swallows arrive in spring. We also have the privilege, on the odd occasion, of playing host to a wild herd of Red Deer, they are often seen on the hillside. We have seen as many as 40 at one time but it is more normal to see one or two. They have their calves on our land usually in June. Originally, Wren Cottage was a shippon / barn on the beautiful ancient Fairboroughs Farm. The farm dates back to 1230, it was a grange to a now disappeared Cistercian Monastery just outside Leek. There are records showing it as one of the monastery's properties. Wren Cottage is later dating to the 1550's.
