La Casa Grande is part of a small hotel (La Torre del Cornone). You will find us in the historic center of the village of Fontecchio (AQ) just a 5-minute walk from the village's main square. Fontecchio is a medieval village located in the heart of the Sirente Velino Park. This typical tower-house is located in the southern corner of the village walls, with spectacular views of the green and quiet valley of the Aterno river. The space The house, entirely at your disposal, is a large apartment on two floors, with 4 bedrooms. Each room has a private bathroom. On the first floor, which is accessed by a flight of stairs, you will find a large living room, with an equipped kitchenette, with two double bedrooms with private bathrooms; on the upper floor, two more bedrooms, also with private bathrooms. The house has simple furnishings typical of the rural culture of this area. In renovating the building, we tried to preserve the original atmosphere, respecting the layout of the spaces, the ancient stairs, the vaulted or exposed wood ceilings. The original materials have been reused as much as possible: the antique brick floors, the stones of the fireplaces, the wood of the doors. From every room, a splendid view of the valley. A stone's throw away, shared with other guests, is a panoramic garden with armchairs and a large table and a brick seat under the “Malvasia Aquilana” pergola. Guest access We are a few minutes' walk from the town square (Piazza del Popolo), where you can park your car. There are a few stairs both inside the house and in the public access path. We also have a space to leave bicycles. Directly from the house, through the Porta da Piedi path, you can reach the valley where the Aterno river flows or you can go up to Pagliare. The house is located along the Cammino di San Tommaso (Rome-Ortona) and along that of Calestino V (Sulmona-L'Aquila). From here you can visit the many towns, to reach the trails of the highest mountains of Gran Sasso, Monte Sirente and Maiella Madre. A few minutes' drive away, Lake Sinizzo, where you can cool off in summer, and the Stiffe caves. Nearby, the Campo Imperatore plateau with Rocca di Calascio and Santo Stefano di Sessanio, the cities of L'Aquila and Sulmona. Guides, maps of the trails and roads, a well-stocked library on the environment and landscape and all our expertise on itineraries, local food and wineries to know and visit are available to guests. In the village, all the necessary amenities for a peaceful stay: the bar and tobacconist, a grocery store, restaurants, a deli, pharmacy, post office with ATM. Other things to note The Torre del Cornone is also an Environmental Education Center recognized by the Abruzzo Region and seeks to minimize the impact of its services on the environment.
