Comfortable, well lit upstairs apartment over our home. Currently we have 2 bedrooms available, plus a full bath with corner shower, sitting area, dining table, microwave, small fridge. Windows look out onto a quiet neighborhood, backyard and gardens. Located near the heart of Newberg's rich downtown district, close to parks, coffee shops, beer and wine tasting, farm to table restaurants, antique stores, movie theater, grocery store and Cultural Center. Garden-fresh breakfast included. Hosts live on the main floor. About us: Married 40 years, Colin and I are Oregon-grown Quakers. We were Airbnb hosts in Indiana from 2012-2017, superhosts for many years running. We nurture body and spirit through nature and the outdoors--running, gardening, kayaking, backpacking--good books, good people and locally grown food. Our desire is to live sustainably on the earth, find joy in relationships and belong to an authentic community. Our hope is to offer a warm welcome to travelers! Entrance is through host's back door, walk through laundry room to stairway going up. Stairway access only--guests must be capable of climbing stairs. Guests will reside in the upstairs over our home, but will have access to the backyard and gardens. We also have a chicken house (but no rooster). Flowers, vegetables and fruit are abundant on our property! We love to interact with our guests, but also respect their desire for privacy. Optional visiting time is during breakfast, or--occasionally-- a 5 pm appetizer/tasting hour in our living room or on the back patio, per guest request. Hosts always available by cell phone. Back door access will have a key code so guests are free to come and go. Adventures Newberg is a short drive from dozens of wineries and local breweries where tastings can be scheduled nearly any day of the year. Two public parks are close by our home--with a splash pad in summer, climbing structures, swings and slides. Two coffee shops and a bakery lie within 6 blocks of our home, offering local art, local eats, locally roasted coffee and great books. Meet up with friends, disappear in a good book or sink into rest, study or reflection in one of these aromatic hangouts. The Willamette River lies just 13 blocks south of our home at Roger's Landing. For a small daily fee, a boat ramp is available to access the river. Fishing from the docks is free, as is use of the picnic area and public restrooms. Newberg is home to George Fox University, which offers a wide variety of music, theater and sporting events as well as renowned guest speakers available to the general public throughout the school year. The corner of campus is 7 blocks from our home. Events The Chehalem Cultural Center is three blocks away, offering classes and events year round for those interested in artistic adventures. The popular Tunes on Tuesday happens in the same Square every week in July and August. Talented and well-known groups draw big crowds who enjoy street vendors, beer and wine in addition to the great music--which can sometimes be heard from our back yard! Downtown Newberg Merchants hold an Art, Wine and Music Event on the First Friday of every month from 5-9 pm. The downtown area is 2 blocks from our home. Look for Newberg Art Walk online. The local farmers' market happens two blocks from our house on Wednesdays, Memorial Day through mid October, 4-8 pm. Supports local farmers and artisans selling their wares, as well as food vendors and live music. Newberg has very limited public transportation, but we live within walking distance of nearly all amenities. Vineyard tours can be scheduled through private services--we have recommendations for drivers whom we know and trust. A few times a year we care for our grand puppy, Kenyon, a Shiba Inu. While he is with us he stays on the main floor. He is quiet and friendly, and is not allowed upstairs in the guest space. If we know in advance of allergies or other concerns regarding a dog, we can arrange for someone else to watch him. He is with us only 2-3 weeks per calendar year.
