Description
Create unforgettable memories and discover peace, tranquility and calm immersed in this truly unique lovingly restored barn. Queenies lodge, has been included in the top 100 places to stay in Ireland, by The Sunday Times, ‘23, ‘25. The Lodge is enhanced by a private wooded walk and wellness area. It is located close to the picturesque village of Windgap, 25 minutes from Kilkenny city. Beautiful old stone and brick, restored to its former glory make this an exceptional home to come and visit. The space Queenies lodge, (named after our aunt Queenie who lived here for 86 years) part of a working farm, was built in the 1800 ‘s. The lodge is located in our yard as is our home, should a guest need anything during their stay. It comprises a spacious 3 bedroom home, (one en-suite) with stunning unique features. It has a large open plan kitchen, complete with granite worktops, large island with integrated appliances, wood burning stove, free WiFi, ground floor wet room and bedroom, freestanding bathtub and games room. We also just added a new wellness room, with infrared sauna, for guests to experience pure tranquility during their stay. Guest access Guests enter the lodge through a front door, with double height hall which has steps leading to open plan kitchen / living / dining area. Other things to note Queenies Lodge has been listed as one of the 100 great places to stay in Ireland by The Irish Times Magazine, 2023 and more recently in 2025. Many of the features you’ll find at Queenies lodge are unique to the property and to the thought that went into it during its restoration. Cedar wood, sourced on our farm and our neighbours farm, was carefully crafted by our joiner (a local who loved to work with the wood) and used on window boards, sliding en-suite door, bathroom vanity units and our kitchen table which, combined with resin make this piece a real work of art. Another local Kilkenny man, a skilled metal and steel fabricator, relished the challenge of making and manufacturing the amazing Crittall doors and windows used in the original arches. Our neighbour did an incredible job, expertly working on the original stone bringing it back to its former glory. Timmy, a gifted man who takes great pride in his work, painstakingly exposed the original stone walls and did a hugh amount in the restoration of Queenies lodge. He continues to maintain the gardens and upkeep of the lodge. At Queenies lodge there is a private garden with limestone patio, together with BBQ and pizza oven. We have converted one of the other outbuildings to a games room, with full sized pool table, darts board and table tennis table for those evenings when you want to hang out, listen to music and enjoy the challenge of beating your opponent at their favourite game! One of the natural features at Queenies lodge is the private wooded walk. Here you will find yourself immersed in nature, listening only to the birds singing, the smell of wild garlic and the lush fresh greenery surrounding the area. If you are lucky our dogs Chilly, Casper, Lady and Olly might even join you to show you the way, together with Millie, Charlie, and Simba our cats, who love to explore the woodland. On your walk Jimmy and Snowy - the ponies, are sure to stroll over to you, they just love to be rubbed, patted and generally paid attention to!!
