Cosy Double Room in Historic Inn
The Baiting House
Description
A Michelin Guide-listed country pub with rooms and lodges in the Herefordshire hills, where serious food meets a proper, unhurried escape. Open fires, good cooking, and dogs welcome throughout. The space There's something special about sleeping in the building itself. While our lodges offer seclusion and space, the three rooms upstairs in the main Baiting House give you something different — warmth, character, and that particular feeling of being properly in somewhere rather than adjacent to it. Breakfast downstairs. A nightcap at the bar without worrying about the walk back. The creak of a proper old building settling around you at night. It's a different kind of stay, and for the right guest, it's the best one we offer. Smaller than its neighbours, but don't let that put you off. Pioneer is snug in the best possible sense — a room that feels made for a proper weekend away rather than a soulless night on the road. Everything you need, in just the right amount of space. Named after the Pioneer hop — bold, dependable, and quietly underrated. A bit like a well-kept secret. During your stay We're Andrew and Kate. The Baiting House has been ours since 2015, when we found it closed and quietly going derelict after more than 175 years as the village pub. Kate's father was born a mile away, so taking it on felt like bringing something home. A year's restoration later, we reopened as a food-led country inn with rooms and lodges, now listed in the Michelin Guide. What matters to us is good food, a genuine welcome and an unhurried stay, your dog very much included.
