Description

►► IMPORTANT: CLICK "Show More >" BELOW ◄◄ Before booking or inquiring, it is REQUIRED to read and confirm the "Agreement" detailed below in your FIRST message. Our Charitable Institute offers world-class views and unique features—some you might adore and some not, like our "Self-Service Plus" OR "Helper" concepts. We need this confirmation upfront for a smoother process, making it much easier for both of us. Expect breathtaking nature, not hotel service! Longer stays recommended. The space ( ͡❛ ͜ʖ ͡❛) ►► WARNING: DO NOT TREAT THIS TEXT AS SMALL PRINT ◄◄ So that we can take immediate action to approve your booking request (or pre-approve you to book in the case of an inquiry), you must include your confirmation EXACTLY AS IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE WRITTEN in your VERY FIRST message after reading this description. Doing it this way eliminates unnecessary waiting time and endless screen checks that waste both your time and ours, and which may otherwise result in your request being declined. Please respect this process, and simply do not book or inquire if it does not suit you to read and approve our multi-point agreement. Also, DO NOT BOOK if you simply do not like reading instructions! It is vital to read this entirely to avoid misunderstanding your stay. Know your intentions: Are you booking a Private Room or a Shared Space? Are you selecting a Self-Service Plus or a Helper category? We write this because it is extremely frustrating when there is a misunderstanding that could have been easily avoided, and, for example, when guests stand at our door asking "how do we get in?" after ignoring their arrival guide. It is even more ridiculous when guests leave sub-optimal cleaning marks for a community-maintained home—especially Helpers, who are specifically booked to put in extra effort—yet arrive expecting hotel-level perfection. Please read on to ensure this is the right fit. ► WHERE SPECTACULAR TRAVEL MEETS GLOBAL CHANGE Our charitable institute is a unique charity; it is a visionary global think tank. We believe that to solve the world’s greatest challenges—from global conflict to biosphere collapse—we must tackle the ideas that created them and change the global narrative at its root. ► TWO BREATHTAKING ENVIRONMENTS To fuel this mission, we operate purpose-driven hubs in two of the earth’s most breathtaking environments. Up in the Swiss Mountains, our serene center focuses on empirical science, planetary survival, and biodiversity. Next to the Arctic Ocean in Iceland, right beside a dramatic glacier-volcano, our unrestrained advocacy hub fights fiercely against global tyranny and human rights abuses. ► A UNIQUELY EMPOWERING MODEL Our model is uniquely empowering: we operate dual volunteer centers and breathtaking self-service accommodations for paying guests. When you book a stay at one of our pristine Arctic or Alpine retreats, your trip directly funds high-leverage global activism rather than corporate margins. ► YOUR PURPOSEFUL ESCAPE Whether you join us as a dedicated volunteer or simply visit as a paying tourist seeking an awe-inspiring, purposeful escape, you are stepping away from the noise. You are retreating to the top of the world to help change it. ►►A Unique Way to Stay and Support◄◄ ► OUR SHARED ECOSYSTEM Staying at our Iceland or Swiss hubs is a unique experience where we host both Self-Service Plus guests and Helpers / Long-Term / Community members under one roof. We love when Helpers return later as paying guests, and when paying guests decide to volunteer or proudly recommend us to friends! ►► IMPORTANT: YOUR ROLE (TWO WAYS TO STAY) ◄◄ ● Self-Service Plus: Your booking acts as a financial contribution to our campaigns. While you independently manage your own stay, the “Plus” stands for doing more than just cleaning up your own mess. It is the Guardian ethos of taking the initiative—whether that means doing a bit of deep cleaning, washing a load of past guests' laundry, or fixing what a prior traveler may have missed—and paying it forward to keep the sanctuary pristine. ● Helpers & Long-Term: (Note: Helper listings can always be identified by the words "Charity", "Charitable", or "Community" in the title). You pay less for your stay in exchange for more of your time. You handle facility cleaning, chores, maintenance, and/or help with our Think Tank projects—earning those exact same luxurious comforts by actively pulling your weight. ►► CRUCIAL: PRIVATE ROOM vs. SHARED SPACE ◄◄ Check your listing title carefully! If the word "SHARED" is anywhere in the title, it means exactly what it says. You are explicitly booking a bed or mattress in a Shared Sleeping Space (dormitory-style) with strangers or other guests. You are NOT booking a private room. Please do not book a "shared" listing expecting private accommodations. The Realities of Our Iceland Rooms and Tatami Space ► THE MAGIC & WILD NATURE Stay on the edge of the Arctic, overlooking mighty oceans and the Snæfellsjökull glacier (Jules Verne's Gateway to the Center of the Earth). Experience the Northern Lights in winter, or the Midnight Sun and our nesting Arctic Tern colonies in summer. Embrace our raw Arctic reality: completely unpredictable weather and fiercely protective, dive-bombing birds during the summer! ► MASSIVE BEDS & TINY ROOMS Our private sleeping setups vary significantly. One room features a massive 320x200 cm tatami bed (essentially a King and Queen bed joined together), making it perfect for a family or very close friends. Conversely, our other bedrooms feature small double beds and are notoriously "tiny," having been originally built as children's rooms. If you add an extra "squeeze-in mattress," expect a literal tight squeeze that will consume almost all remaining floor space. ►► IF Booking a Shared Space or Room ◄◄ If you are booking or making an inquiry about a shared space or room (please double-check the title of the category you selected!), it is vital to keep the following in mind. You are explicitly booking a shared environment, which means you might be sharing a bedroom with a stranger, or sharing the Washitsu tatami living room with strangers. Furthermore, whether you (or your group) will be sleeping in the tatami living room or squeezed into one or more of the tiny rooms described above depends entirely on your group size, current availability, and our final discretion. ► ROOM FLEXIBILITY & THE WASHITSU Because we balance volunteers and incoming groups, your exact room assignment is STRICTLY flexible; you must accept whatever private room is allocated to you. Additionally, our gorgeous Japanese-style Washitsu (Tatami) living room usually serves as an incredible communal lounge offering panoramic views, but its availability as a lounge is not guaranteed as it may sometimes be re-assigned as a shared or private sleeping space, perhaps for your group. door, apartment door, and balcony doors are never left ajar. ♦ ───────────── ♦ ───────────── ♦ ► THE "NO BURDEN" PHILOSOPHY Because our energy goes entirely into our global activism, our core philosophy is simple: do not be a burden. Supporting our mission is a payback in itself. We DO NOT OFFER traditional hotel STAFF OR SERVICE. Instead, we provide meticulously organized setups, breathtaking locations, and deeply comfortable beds with high-thread-count linens. You bring the respect and self-reliance. ► A REALITY CHECK ON REVIEWS If an autonomous concept isn't for you, please DO NOT BOOK. It is frankly ridiculous to explicitly agree to our model, and then leave us low marks for the cleanliness you were personally responsible for putting it right! The Final Agreement & Required Response ►► YOUR AGREEMENT: A REQUIRED RESPONSE ◄◄ To proceed with your booking, you must reply confirming that you explicitly agree to these 6 core tenets of our sanctuary: 1. VALUES & A SPECIAL PURPOSE: I recognize that this is a special Charitable Think Tank with a unique global purpose. I confirm my personal values unconditionally align with the host’s principles of gender equality, respect for alternative lifestyles (including trans rights), individual freedom, and respect for the environment. Furthermore, I agree to familiarize myself with the institute's projects and actively promote a subject I identify with to my friends and acquaintances. 2. THE LOCATION, ROOM & ROLE REALITIES: I explicitly accept all the stated realities regarding my location (authentic nature, weather constraints, access), my room's unique constraints and bedding (including the strict acceptance of flexible room assignments and layouts), and the exact expectations for my chosen guest category (Self-Service vs Helper/Long Term, and Private Room vs Shared Space). 3. THE SHARED ECOSYSTEM & HOUSE RULES: I embrace the shared community dynamic of this sanctuary and understand I will be sharing communal areas (kitchen, living spaces, and bathrooms) with helpers (albeit not your servants) and/or other travelers. I also agree to strictly adhere to all essential house rules—especially the absolute "Bathroom Gospel" of keeping bathroom doors WIDE OPEN whenever not in active use to ensure hygiene and harmony. 4. THE COVENANT (Self-Service Plus & The "Ghost Risk"): I accept there is no cleaning staff. I embrace the "Self-Service Plus" philosophy and the "Ghost Risk," meaning if prior guests left a space imperfect, my honorable duty is to step up and put it right without complaint. Furthermore, I commit to remaking my bed with fresh linens before departure and leaving ALL spaces I use—both private and communal—clean and better than I found them, regardless of their condition upon my arrival. 5. COMMUNICATION & ACCOUNTABILITY: I agree to provide my Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) before I arrive. Furthermore, I promise not to be a silent guest; I will maintain an active, responsive dialogue with the host throughout my entire stay, keep them updated, and most importantly, I will send photos of my perfectly clean spaces just before my departure. 6. REVIEW INTEGRITY: I agree to base any review solely on how accurately my stay matches what is comprehensively described in the listing and these messages. I agree NOT to penalize the host or deduct stars for my agreed-upon chores, the strict self-service model, the shared facilities, the unpredictability of raw nature, room/bed constraints, or the detailed length of these instructions. I recognize that I am here to help, not hinder, the charity on its mission, and I understand this radical honesty is exactly what sustains this unique sanctuary. (Note: If this model feels like a burden, please do not proceed. If a booking request has already been made, you must withdraw it right away so you can be completely reimbursed!) ►► HOW TO CONFIRM: ◄◄ If you have read, understood, and genuinely agree, please reply with the exact phrase: ► "I have read all the messages and confirm my unconditional acceptance of all 6 points." ◄ ♦ ───────────── ♦ ───────────── ♦ ───────────── ♦ ───────────── ♦ Guest access ( ͡❛ ͜ʖ ͡❛) ♦ ───────────── ♦ ───────────── ♦ ───────────── ♦ ───────────── ♦ IF YOU READ THE DESCRIPTION ABOVE, READING THE TEXT BELOW IS OPTIONAL. ♦ ───────────── ♦ ───────────── ♦ ───────────── ♦ ───────────── ♦ Other things to note Hello, and thank you for your booking request or inquiry for our sanctuary at the edge of the Arctic! 🌍✨ We must be radically transparent. We are not a standard hotel; we are a registered Charitable Institute, a contributor to science, and an active Think Tank fighting for a better world. Staying at our Think Tank is an absolutely fantastic opportunity, but it is an experience not everyone can or should be a part of. To ensure a perfect fit, you must fully comprehend and embrace our ethos. Please evaluate our listing description carefully, heed our blunt "DO NOT BOOK" warnings, and read both our most glowing and negative reviews so you completely understand what staying here entails. ►►► THE MAGIC: Why You Should Come ◄◄◄ Our sanctuary offers an experience that is scientifically and naturally unique: ►► Unobstructed Panoramas: ◄◄ Our Washitsu (Tatami) living room (when available and not privately reserved) features large windows with absolutely no houses in front or back, ensuring an unhindered connection to nature. ►► Mighty Oceans & Whales: ◄◄ We sit exactly at the meeting point of the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans—among the richest fishing grounds in the world. You might even observe whales directly from the living room using our provided scope and binoculars. ►► The Glacier-Volcano: ◄◄ Dominating the skyline is the mystical Snæfellsjökull glacier and volcano, famed globally as Jules Verne's Gateway to the Center of the Earth and hailed as a mythical planetary energy center. ►► Nature's Schedule: ◄◄ Witnessing the glacier, whales, and celestial events is always weather-permitting. Because the Snæfellsnes Peninsula offers an abundance of sights, we strongly encourage a longer stay to immensely maximize your chances to experience these wonders. ►► The Avian Metropolis: ◄◄ In summer, we are the literal runway for one of the greatest Arctic Tern colonies on Earth, alongside countless nesting waterfowl, coastal birds, and nearby puffins. ►► The "Goldilocks Zone": ◄◄ We sit exactly 2,250 km from the Geomagnetic North Pole—the scientific median and absolute sweet spot for witnessing the Northern Lights. In summer, you instead enjoy the boundless energy of the Midnight Sun. ►►► OUR THINK TANK: The Charitable Mandate ◄◄◄ Our global communication campaigns champion Biodiversity Vision, advocate for human rights, individual freedom, and education for all, contribute to science, and fight against tyranny and the misappropriation of resources. ►► Your Impact: ◄◄ Staying here actively helps our Charity cover costs. Standard guests contribute simply by being here and doing "a bit more" to maintain the home; helpers commit to doing "a lot more." Helpers are strongly encouraged to assist with projects on-site or remotely. ►► Your Obligation: ◄◄ As a condition of joining our community, you must familiarize yourself with our charitable projects. We ask that you select a subject or subjects you deeply identify with and promise to actively promote our cause to your friends and acquaintances. ►►► THE REALITY: Healthy Living & "Self-Service Plus" ◄◄◄ ►► A Healthy Sanctuary: ◄◄ We champion slow travel and healthy living. There is a strict ban on drugs, and absolutely ►► no smoking or vaping ◄◄ is permitted anywhere in or near the house. ►► The Guardian Covenant: ◄◄ We have no cleaning staff. You accept the "Ghost Risk" that a prior guest might have missed a spot. Your honorable duty is to step up, put it right without complaint, and leave the sanctuary better than you found it. ►► Accountability: ◄◄ To protect the sanctuary for the future of our project, you are strictly required to clean up impeccably, properly strip and remake your beds with fresh linen, and ►► send us photos ◄◄ of the pristine spaces just before you depart. ►►► THE REALITIES OF OUR SPACES ◄◄◄ ►► Tiny Rooms & "Squeeze-In" Mattresses: ◄◄ While our home has one small master bedroom featuring a huge 320x200 cm bed, you should note that the rest of our private rooms are notoriously "tiny." Originally designed as children's rooms to maximize warmth, they have very limited floor space for sprawling luggage. Furthermore, if you are booking a category that accommodates an extra guest with a "squeeze-in mattress," please understand that this literally means a tight squeeze—it will consume almost all remaining floor space in that room. ►► The Washitsu Living Area: ◄◄ Our beautiful Japanese-style Tatami space is an incredible communal asset offering our best windows. However, please note that it might not be available as a lounge at all during your stay. It may occasionally be reserved entirely, sectioned off with traditional paravent screens as a sleeping space for other guests, or it could even be re-assigned to your group as your sleeping area. ►► Room Flexibility: ◄◄ Because we must carefully juggle community needs, charitable volunteers, and varying group sizes, your exact room assignment is flexible and not guaranteed. Regardless of the category booked, you must accept the possibility that we may need to allocate you a different sleeping space within the house upon your arrival. ►►► YOUR CATEGORY: STANDARD VS. HELPER ◄◄◄ ►► Standard Guests: ◄◄ If you are a standard guest, you operate under our "Self-Service Plus" covenant. You must rigorously clean up after yourself and leave the house better than you found it, but your time is otherwise your own. ►► Helpers & Long-Term Guests: ◄◄ If you booked a subsidized "Helper" category or a Long-Term stay, this is a direct work-exchange. You are expected to be the proactive "immune system" of the house. You must actively jump in to do deep cleaning, process communal laundry, and meaningfully contribute to our Think Tank projects—all with high initiative and without waiting to be asked or managed. ►►► A SHARED HOME ◄◄◄ ►► The Communal Areas: ◄◄ The rest of the sanctuary—including the fully-equipped (microwave-free) kitchen and our 1.5 bathrooms—is SHARED with other intrepid travelers, volunteers, or the hosts. We consider this a huge plus: getting to connect with fascinating international people and sharing stories is vastly superior to traveling in an isolated vacuum. ►► The Bathroom Gospel: ◄◄ To maintain perfect hygiene and harmony across shared facilities, we have one absolute rule: when a bathroom is not in active use, the door must be left WIDE OPEN. This eliminates guessing, waiting in the hallway, and provides necessary airflow. ►►► OUR VALUES: A NON-NEGOTIABLE FOUNDATION ◄◄◄ Our sanctuary is anchored by an uncompromising code. We fiercely champion gender equality, demand absolute respect for alternative lifestyles (including trans rights), fight for individual freedom, and uphold rigorous respect for the environment. If celebrating these essential freedoms makes you uncomfortable, this is not a fit. ►►► INFORMATION & REVIEW INTEGRITY ◄◄◄ This intricate sanctuary survives because we arm our guests with highly detailed blueprints. If reading instructions feels like a burden, our model will overwhelm you. In the brutal mathematics of booking platforms, a 4-star review threatens our existence. If you plan to dock points for doing chores, encountering detailed instructions, unpredictable weather, room reallocations, or the shared community setup, we beg you to look elsewhere. ►►► YOUR AGREEMENT: A REQUIRED RESPONSE ◄◄◄ To proceed with your booking request or inquiry, you must reply confirming that you explicitly agree to every single one of the following 6 points: 1 - THE SPACE & THE COMMUNITY: I understand I am booking a sleeping space in a SHARED home, which provides a brilliant opportunity to connect with fellow travelers rather than being isolated in a lonely vacuum. I also acknowledge the Washitsu living room may be unavailable and my exact room assignment remains flexible as previously detailed. 2 - THE COVENANT: I accept the "Self-Service Plus" philosophy and the "Ghost Risk." I commit to making my bed with fresh linens upon departure and leaving ALL areas cleaner than I found them, regardless of their condition upon my arrival. 3 - LOCATION & NATURE: I accept and embrace the authentic Arctic location realities — meaning I am excited for the breathtaking access to oceans, glaciers, and celestial skies, while also accepting the unpredictable weather and protective, dive-bombing birds during the summer nesting season. 4 - VALUES & A SPECIAL PURPOSE: I recognize that this is a very special, fantastic place with a unique global purpose. I confirm my values align with the host's principles, and I agree to familiarize myself with the Charitable Think Tank's projects to actively promote a subject or subjects I identify with to my friends and acquaintances. 5 - COMMUNICATION & ACCOUNTABILITY: I agree to send my Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA). Furthermore, I promise not to be a silent guest; I will maintain an active, responsive dialogue with the host throughout my entire stay, update them on my experience, and send photos of the perfectly clean spaces just before my departure. 6 - REVIEW INTEGRITY: I agree NOT to penalize the host for my duties, the self-service model, the realities of raw nature, or the length of these instructions. I also agree not to deduct points for ANY of the strict limitations and realities that have been transparently warned about in these messages, understanding this radical honesty is exactly what sustains this unique sanctuary. ►►► HOW TO CONFIRM ◄◄◄ If you have read, understood, and genuinely agree, please reply with the exact phrase: ► "I have read the messages and confirm my acceptance of all 6 points." ◄ ►►► URGENT: ACTION REQUIRED IF YOU CANNOT AGREE ◄◄◄ If a booking request has already been made and this agreement does not suit you, it is absolutely essential to withdraw your request right away so that your charges will be reimbursed.
