Cocketts - a peaceful and historic country cottage

Cocketts Holiday Cottage - a delightful 16th century pink country cottage tucked away on a quiet lane in the heart of rural Suffolk. Cosy, comfortable and tranquil, featuring beams, logburning stove and large garden with orchard, games room and children's playhouse. Feed the owner's pygmy goats and look for eggs from the chickens. Thoughtfully equipped with all you'll need for a relaxing 'get-away-from-it-all' break at any time of year. Interesting places to visit and easy access to the coast. The space Cocketts is a 16th century listed cottage nestled at the end of a country lane in the heart of Suffolk. It has oak beams, wonky floors and a large inglenook fireplace with log burning stove. It is cosy, comfortable and warm and has lots of character. It is equipped to a high standard with all mod-cons; wi-fi, smart TV, sound bar and DVD; comfy seating, quality linen, an attic den with PS3 and books, games and toys for all ages. Just through the back door is a converted outhouse with full-sized pool table and a dart board, and West facing patio for sitting out. Sleeping 6 in 2 king-size bedrooms, and a twin, there is also a double and single futon, if needed in the attic den, making 8 guests (or even 9 at a push) an option. One of the king-size beds can be made into 2 singles if preferred. We have two highchairs, a travel cot and stair-gates if needed. From the back door there is an enclosed 'safe' area of garden for little ones which has the benefit of a wooden playhouse and outdoor toys. Here there is a patio with wooden table and chairs to enjoy the evening sun, and also the outhouse with pool table. Beyond the enclosed garden there is a large lawned area for ball games, and beyond that is a large pond, and an old orchard with tree swing and picnic table, which provides for further adventure or relaxation. The acre of garden is visited by a wide variety of birds and wildlife, and in season provides apples, pears, sloes, quince, walnuts and damsons. We keep chickens and friendly pygmy goats that are always keen for attention. There are walks from the door, perfect if you are bringing the dog, and it is easy and flat for cycling. Despite a feeling of being 'in the middle of nowhere', Cocketts is easy to get to. It is well placed for exploring the many local picturesque villages, the Suffolk heritage coast, Constable Country, as well as Norwich, Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds. Suffolk has a wealth of farmers' markets, pubs and restaurants that pride themselves on local produce that will keep you well fed. There are plenty of places of interest to visit, and books, maps and information is kept up to date to help you make the most of your stay. Cocketts itself has an interesting history with links to the early Quakers and the English Civil War. Guest access You have independent access access to the whole of the detached house and the garden which comprises: Ground Floor - Living Room - Kitchen - Utility Room - Downstairs shower room with WC and handbasin First Floor - Bedroom 1 (kingsize) - Bedroom 2 (kingsize or twin) - Family bathroom, with over bath shower Second floor - Playroom (has a single and double futon which can be made up on request). Walk through to: - Bedroom 3 (twin) Garden room - Pool table - Darts and dartboard - TV - Sound system Other things to note During the peak summer season we have a 7 day minimum stay with the start day being a Friday. There is off road parking, ample for 3 cars, and now EV charging. The house is at the end of a no-through country lane surrounded by farmland. When there has been a lot of rain there is often a large 'puddle' across the road. It's not deep, just extensive and persistent! Broadband is improving all the time, but is not 'super fast', but we have both worked from home so it is more than adequate. Towels and welcome basket provided. We offer a late departure on a Sunday - up until 3pm, so that you can have a lazy day!
