A century old small Bungalow in a pepper farm and in an extensive garden in non touristic village near Matale. Two cozy bedrooms-one bedroom with an ensuite bathroom and one large bedroom with separate dressing and bathroom. There are two verandas, spacious living room and kitchen. There are rice fields, little temples and mountains in sight. We have wild residential monkeys and song birds in the garden. Occasional Peacocks and Giant squirrels. Ideal for nature lovers as a relaxing spot! The space The cottage itself is quite simple, hot water, kitchen etc if you want to make tea, coffee, toast etc. You can order the village meals if you wish. The rooms with ventilators but we have no AC as we experience cold climate conditions most of the year. And sometimes there can be power failures if there are heavy rains. This is for a simple living experience and there is a caretaker and Gardener to assist the guests. The Bungalow is surrounded by large fruit and spice plants. Usually artists, writers and hikers who seek quietness in nature book this house. Ultimate relaxing experience. Please note that we also do not have WiFi. You can encounter together with the pepper garden cheeky monkeys, colorful peacocks, and countless tropical birds as your daily companions. Lounge in our cozy veranda space to relax—breathe in fresh green air under the tall trees. There are two bedrooms with comfy beds and cotton linen. Our village is untouched by the mass tourism. Most of the people live here are rice and spice farmers. Our bungalow is located in middle of a pepper garden and next to a rice field, where you will hear many birds, grasshoppers and other animals at night. There is a nearby temple where one could hear the Buddhist chantings adding a little mystic to the atmosphere. This combination create this farm house a nice place to switch off the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy the simplicity of a Sri Lankan village life. Guest access This bungalow is only reserved for one group and no other people will share the property with you. You will have the gardens and the house all by yourselves. We do have a caretaker and house keeping staff to assist your stay but they are discreet and only available when you need them. The kitchen is fully stocked with a honesty bar with milk, tea, coffee, sugar, biscuits, toast bread, some local cheese, crackers, yogurt and noodle pots for breakfast. Just take what you want and leave the cash in the basket in the kitchen. If you wish to order a village breakfast, we can arrange that for you as well for a small fee. Just let us know at the time of checking in. Other things to note This property is ideal for small families with two children, 4 friends traveling together or a couple. The house is quite simple as it is 100 years old but newly renovated and equipped with all modern amenities that an European traveller would need. This is not a super luxury villa but a simple comfortable home in an authentic village setting in Sri Lanka. No smoking inside the house but there are corners in the garden where you can smoke freely without disturbing others. But bringing in toxic substances that fall under illegal in Sri Lanka is strictly forbidden and will be reported to the police if found. Villages are noise sensitive, therefore please respect local authorities and don’t make noisy gatherings. Outsiders are not allowed inside the property ensuring safety of our staff. Please note that this house is fully in a natural surrounding and you might encounter some tropical insects. We cultivate the garden organically and we do not spray pesticides. Monkeys are a daily occurrence on the trees. Please do not try to feed them or encourage them to reach the ground area. Often there are many baby monkeys but they are wild and please respect that they do not like to be touched or pet. You can enjoy them through the windows or veranda but make sure to close all the windows while going out the property. They are curious in nature and like to come inside to have a look and take things they might find interesting.
