Bohemian Seaside Studio: oceanfront, Canadian
Description
* Most loved listing E of Toronto, and one of the top 7 in Canada!* (Buzzfeed/CBC; Airbnb 2019) Quirky loft set high in the trees. Deck with harbour view (sunsets, whales, sailboats); skylight-lit dining nook; snug double bed with seaview; enough floorspace to practice your tango moves. This is a special place, my home (not hotel) and available to folks who leave it better than they find it. Various options possible. Please message w your 'pitch' before booking. The space TO BOOK: My place is not for everyone, so please be SURE to read the ENTIRE listing and write to me FIRST to discuss your interests and needs. Boho at Ideas Unlimited dot ca. INTRODUCTIONS: Hello! Nice to ‘meet’ you. Click on my profile for my introduction and tell me something likewise about yourself and your travel companion so I can be sure to leave my special place in the 'right hands'. Include: full names of you and your travel companion; who you 'are', what you do, why you're interested in my place in particular, and whether you're the kind of person who takes pleasure in leaving a place in better condition than you found it. THE BOHO: The Boho is a cozy and cool loft-style suite on the top floor of my 105 year old house RIGHT on the water. So close to the water in fact that being in the bed feels like you're in a boat. . NEARBY: 15 minute walk to gorgeous swimming lake, 5 minute walk to bus-stop, 15 minute drive to downtown Halifax (restaurants, festivals, shows...), 1 minute walk to kayak launching point, and plenty of hiking, biking, adventuring and relaxing. DETAILS: Self-catering: fridge, gas stove, dishwasher, pots and pans and all your cooking needs. Blissfully free of TV and telephone, there is a large collection of books, records, and cassettes, as well as high speed internet if you get desperate for distraction. The Boho is NOT suitable for children. . MY HOME: The Boho was my main home for decades and now does double duty as my office (when you are there, I stay downstairs). It is filled with my favourite things: rescued furniture, my art collection, a random collection of old records, upcycled everything. PARKING: The Boho parking spot is at the top of a small hill off of the lane. It is easily navigable by a confident driver; but not great for the hesitant. If you are the latter, please talk to us before attempting the parking spot, and we can give you the tips and tricks! (There’s also a MUCH easier spot if you don’t mind a short walk). PAY IT FORWARD: We are working to develop a spirit of collaboration between hosts, guests and the world in general. We believe in the principle of ‘leaving things better than you found them’ and invite our guests to be temporary caretakers of this magical place. Guests of The Boho leave the place in better shape than they found it, ready for the next arrival. As a consequence we don’t ordinarily charge a cleaning fee as both guests prefer to take care of the cleaning and prepping themselves. This isn't for everyone but perhaps it is for you? Please let us know when you write your introductory pitch! If you have an early flight out or just can’t deal with setting up for the next arrivals, let us know and we can add the cleaning fee to your booking. WATER SUPPLY: We are on a well and septic, with an occasionally limited water supply (depends on rain, wildfires, hurricanes, etc), so if long hot showers and abundant towels will make or break your vacation, we suggest one of the many downtown hotels! PRICING DISCLOSURE: #DYK the price you see includes Airbnb service fees (17-23% depending on your country of residence). On top of that total, you pay occupancy tax (2%) and federal HST tax (15%)? So when you’re thinking about the ‘value’ of our fully self-catering magical oceanfront home (The Boho) know that our gross earnings are about 60% of what you pay - out of which we purchase all the things that make your visit memorable: eg special insurance for short term rental; cleaning services & supplies; property tax; linens; maintenance; welcome treats; coffee/tea/breakfast items; local beer/wine/cider. To better support our small business, send us a note: boho at ideas unlimited dot ca. Jus' sayin'. Guest access The apartment and deck are yours for the duration of your stay. There is also a dedicated parking space tucked in the trees nearby. My partner Sean and I currently live in the flat immediately below, and we will greet and orient you when you arrive (or at a mutually convenient time). My mother, Sally, lives next door (and makes the beautiful pottery you will find in the apartment). Her gallery is on the bottom floor of the Boho building, and she would be happy to show it to you. Other things to note 1. The bed is snugged up against the wall, so it is best suited to couples or very close friends. 2. The Boho is an attic apartment, with sloped walls. As a consequence, the bath is a bathtub w handheld shower, and the tall will need to slouch at the sink. Men may need to sit on the throne! 3. The retro loo was renovated in 2017. I added: skylight, vintage clawfoot tub, reclaimed hardwood flooring, funky vanity (made by me). The tub is salvaged and is CLEAN, but it LOOKS stained. Please treat it kindly! 4. The apartment is on the top floor of a 105-year old house. It can get quite warm in the heat of summer. But not to worry - there are fans and a mini-split heat/AC unit. 5. We can hear you! We live downstairs and sound travels. 6. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the property. 7. before your arrival, we will send you links to our house manual, and to the liability waiver that is required by our insurance company.
