Charming sitting room with log burner Spacious garden and terrace with covered verandah and furniture Simple DIY breakfast provided Private entrance King bed Great base for exploring country gardens and houses of Hampshire. Convenient for London, Winchester, Farnham, Windsor, Highclere Please note the location, vehicle required - 35 min walk to village and shops 2.5 miles + The space Surrounded by fields on a quiet country lane 'Fox Pightle' was a winner in the 2019 Daily Telegraph Home Building and Renovating awards and has been featured in several publications. This recently built, oak framed cottage is beautifully and comfortably furnished and has delightful views on all sides. From the french windows in the sitting room you will frequently see pheasants, deer, hare, and sometimes the fox . There are many wild birds in the garden tempted by several feeders. Though there is no dedicated kitchen, a breakfast/ food station in the hallway provides a mini fridge, Nespresso machine, kettle, toaster and an egg boiler . I supply a simple DIY breakfast including bread, croissants, cereal, butter, preserves and free range eggs. ( usually from my hens )The washing up facilities are in the bathroom. Please note, there is a microwave but there are no other cooking facilities . However, there are plenty of good local pubs, restaurants and farm shops in the area and also a M and S Food store ( 5mins drive ) and a large Waitrose ( 8 mins drive) Take aways and deliveries are available locally. I provide crockery, cutlery etc . If you wish to bring your own cold provisions there is more fridge/freezer space if required in the open cart shed. Please let me know if you would like to use this. The sitting room contains 2 comfortable linen sofas, a small table and chairs for dining or working and a cosy log burner . There is a television and the wifi is good . The bathroom has a good shower with plenty of hot water and simple toiletries provided. In the bedroom there is a comfortable king sized bed with quality linen and textiles and plenty of cupboard and drawer space. French doors open onto a lovely private, covered terrace and garden with comfortable outdoor furniture , water feature and pleasant views . Though peace and quiet is the usual order of the day ( see reviews ) I cannot be responsible for occasional countryside noise such as the bird scarer or farm machinery and uncharacteristic neighbour noise ! The house itself is generally quiet but some normal domestic noise may be heard in the hall from time to time. I have a small friendly dog, an amusing cat and 4 hens, none of which are allowed in the guest suite. WHERE TO EAT There are many choices of pubs, restaurants, farm shops, garden centres etc within easy driving distance. Old Basing has a great artisan Bakery and Cafe ( the Bakeshop )and is a 4 min drive or a pleasant 40 minute walk across fields in the summer. Old Basing, ( 3 mins drive) 3 Pubs including Barton's Mill on the riverside. Mapledurwell ( 5 mins ) Rotherwick (9 mins ) , Upton Grey ( 15 mins ) all have characterful pubs . Odiham ( 10 mins ) and Hartley Wintney (12 mins ), both charming Georgian villages, have a good choice of restaurants, pubs and coffee shops in all price ranges. All can be viewed online. Please note that walking to the pub from here on winter evenings is not really possible as it is too dark and muddy ! Guest access Guests enter through a five barred gate leading to a spacious parking area. The front door beneath the oak porch is the private entrance. The bedroom, shower room and sitting room all lead off this space which is separated from the rest of the cottage by a bolted oak fire door. There is a large rear terrace to enjoy the lovely garden and views, this can be accessed through the french doors in the sitting room. This part of the garden is for guests use only and will only be accessed for watering and mowing . There is seating in the rose parterre in the front garden which is often a lovely sunny spot for relaxing . Comfortable garden furniture is provided in the front and rear gardens where breakfast and drinks can be enjoyed in good weather. Locked storage for cycles is available. Other things to note A car is recommended at this location. I supply a generous basket of logs, kindling and firelighters to get you started which will generally last a couple of evenings. If you wish to use the log burner during the day, please ask me for more logs and I will provide these for a nominal charge, this is due to the increasing cost of seasoned logs and the fact that many guests choose not to use the log burner at all. Guests normally come by car as it is not practical to walk 2 miles to the nearest shops but walking to the village to the pub or bakery is pleasant during the summer but a bit muddy in the winter. ( wellington boots recommended ) No pavements or street lights make walking at night difficult. The nearest bus stop is over 1 KM away. I have a private sewage treatment plant so nothing except toilet paper can be flushed down the toilet including products labelled as flushable ! Taxis need to be booked in advance as they are often not readily available. Not suitable for children or infants.
