Two bedroom suite, in a historic 1820s farm house, located in the National Historic Registered village of Newfane, VT. Located on 2.5 acres of land, this post & beam house welcomes you to Vermont country life ~ with meadows, flower beds, fruit trees & berries, gardens, a working book bindery. Welcome to Still Water Bindery at Winter Hill Farm! Step back into time and relax in the country. Take a workshop, or rest of the deck or porches. This 1820s farmhouse sits on 2.5 acres of land, with an organic vegetable garden, fruit trees & berry bushes, and perennial flower beds provide flowers for bouquets. Wander down the back meadow and stroll five minutes along the old railroad bed to the historic Newfane Village. WORKSHOPS ~ Still Water Bindery gives workshops in Bookbinding, Paper Making, Paste Papers and Shibori Indigo Dyeing. Contact Patty for workshop availability when you make your AirBnB reservation. Or book through the AirBnB Experiences for Newfane, VT. ACCOMMODATIONS ~ Two cozy upstairs bedrooms ~ one with a comfy double bed and a second private connecting room, with twin beds ~ await your visit. The private bathroom has a tub/shower and is on the same floor. RELAX ~ The front porch, studio deck, and the large screened-in carriage shed are perfect for reading and relaxing in warmer weather. During the colder months curl up with a book in the living room. Walk the back meadow or do some yoga on the deck. KITCHEN ~ The kitchen is off limits for use by guests. No microwave or stove facilities are available for guests' usage. Who wants to cook on vacation anyway? LOCAL COFFEE SPOTS ~ The Newfane Store @thenewfanestore; Fire Arts Cafe @firearts_cafe in Brattleboro; Sticky Fingers Bakery @stickyfingersvtbakery in Dover; Star Fire Bakery @starfire_bakery Wilmington WIFI & CELL ~ Wireless internet is very spotty and there is no reliable cell service in Newfane. Welcome to Vermont ~ and enjoy some time being off the internet! DINING ~ The Fat Crow restaurant is four blocks south on Route 30. Walk right down the hill from SWB for a gourmet meal or two! Make sure to make a reservation if you wish to eat there. YOGA ~ Newfane Village Yoga is several houses away, so you can take a yoga class while staying here. HISTORY ~ The newly renovated West River Valley Railroad Museum is now open weekends from May through October. Stroll down the back meadow to the former railway bed and walk to the museum. MASSAGE ~ enjoy Swedish, Hot Stone or an Ashiatsu therapy session either a five minute walk away, or in your AirBnB room. Once you make your reservation, ask me for the therapist's contact information so you can arrange your private session. FARMERS MARKET ~ Friday nights at the West Townshend Country Store has live music by local musicians and top your own pizzas baked in the outdoor oven year round. The Townshend Farmer's Market runs Friday evenings from from May - October. 10 minute drive north on Route 30 from the house. @westrivercommunityproject SKI ~ Easy access to ski Mt. Snow or Stratton. According to Maps, Mount Snow is 32 minutes and Stratton Mountain 34 minutes from SWB and Okemo is 52 minutes. EPIC pass (@epicpass) holders ski Okemo one day and Mt. Snow the other! MUSIC ~ enjoy the Marlboro Music Festival, Marlboro, VT and the Yellow Barn Music Festival, Putney, VT. West River Community Center has music on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays - enjoy a meal and listen to some tunes. SHOP ~ Manchester, VT is about a 30 minute drive and home to the Northshire Bookstore, a wonderful independent store and cafe. Many outlet centers and restaurants call Manchester their home. Brattleboro is 11 miles south on VT Route 30, where you will find more restaurants, galleries, eclectic shops, the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center, and the Brattleboro Food Co-op. HIKE ~ Putney Mountain is a 30 minute hike with a 360 degree view of the surrounding mountains. The Appalachian Trail and the Long Trail are accessible from trail heads near Manchester, VT. Hike from Jamaica State Park to Hamilton Falls, only 12 minutes to the trail head. Or hike the old railroad bed along the West River from Jamaica State Park to the Ball Mountain Dam. BIKE ~ Many wonderful back roads lend themselves for great bike rides through the Vermont countryside. Bike from SWB through Brookline for a lovely hour's ride past the historic round schoolhouse, swimming holes and farm land. FISH & KAYAK ~ The West River is a favorite spot for many fishermen. The combination of deep slow running water and shallow fast ripples makes for some fine fishing. Lots of lake and rivers and streams to play on. We are ready to welcome you all year long to this southern Vermont retreat! SHOE FREE HOUSE ~ please take your shoes off at the back door and leave them in the mudroom. NO SMOKING. ~ no smoking in the house or on the premises. INDOOR CATS ~ please be mindful when coming and going out the door not to let the cats outside. LABRADOR RETRIEVER DOG ~ there is a very friendly young dog who is a member of the household. NO COOKING PRIVILEGES ~ NO cooking privileges in the kitchen. Who wants to cook while on vacation anyway - right? Restaurants are within walking distance. PERSONAL BELONGINGS ~ Guests are requested to leave your personal belongings in your bedrooms, rather than the public spaces, especially when you are away from the the premises. The dog is very nosy and may inspect your belongings if you leave them about! WORKSHOPS ~ Email me about taking a workshop or class in bookbinding, paper making, paste papers and Shibori Indigo Dyeing during your stay. We can fit it in to your schedule. Newfane Village has a beautiful common. The Windham County Courthouse is very photogenic, with the Newfane Congregational Church and the Union Hall completing the trio of white clapboard buildings that are often photographed together. Newfane is accessed by private car. Taxi service is available from Brattleboro, where the Amtrak train station is located. There is no public transportation available readily available in the West River valley. There is limited cell service in Newfane. You are in the Vermont countryside and cell service is very spotty at best! NO SMOKING on the PROPERTY either OUTSIDE or INSIDE the house. Family members have allergies to 2nd hand smoke. PARKING: Please park your vehicle at the end of the driveway facing the red barn. Not suitable for trailers. Please keep driveway clear so other cars can come & go at all times. USE BACKDOOR: Please use the back door entrance, by the parking, across the gravel patio, and in through the blue screen door. This leads to the house's backdoor. SHOE-FREE HOUSE: Please remove your street / outdoor shoes in the mudroom. There is a bench to sit on while you take your shoes on and off right inside the back door. DOG & INDOOR CATS: Skye Twilight (chocolate Labrador retriever) and Belle Lune & Indigo (Siamese cats) reside at SWB. Please be aware that this is their home. The cats are INDOOR cats, so please make sure they stay inside the house while you are coming in and out the door. PEANUT-FREE HOUSE: as family members have peanut allergies, please leave any peanut products in your cars. Many thanks! NO KITCHEN FACILITIES FOR GUEST'S COOKING: the kitchen is off limits for use by guests. POSSIBLE STREET NOISE: Though visitors have not seemed to mind the local traffic and sleep in late, I want to mention that the bedrooms are along the VT 30 side of the house. There is a white noise machine in the bedrooms to use to use it to block out the street noise for a peaceful and restful sleep.
