Little House, Lamorna
Little House, Lamorna
Description
Set in the verdant grounds of Dame Laura Knight’s (RA) Art Studio in the valley of Lamorna village, ‘Little House’ is a short walk from the famous Lamorna Cove, popular with fishermen, walkers and artists. This stylish, two storey property is cosy and beautifully appointed, comprising an open plan kitchen, dining and living area while the first floor double bedroom has a king-size bed and en suite dressing and shower-room. We look forward to welcoming you to beautiful West Cornwall… The space 'Little House' sits in the grounds of an artists' retreat, originally built for one of Britain's most celebrated artists, Dame Laura Knight RA (1877–1972). She used it as her primary studio and later as her beloved summer home shared with her husband, the painter Harold Knight (1874–1961). In the latter part of the 20th century, two further distinguished artists — Hannah Gluckstein and then John Tunnard — made the house their own, cementing Trethinnick's reputation as a place where creativity flourishes. The property has long been a cherished destination for artists' gatherings and the colourful stories that inevitably follow. 'Little House' is a more recent addition to the property and for over a decade has offered a much-loved Cornish retreat for the owners' close friends and family and is now available for you to enjoy. Bright, airy and self-contained, the two storey accommodation features a fully glazed southern elevation and four roof lights that flood the interior with natural light. Big open skies and sweeping views of the surrounding temperate rainforest draw the eye at every turn. Set within 16 acres of private grounds, teeming with fascinating flora and fauna, you may be lucky enough to spot deer wandering past and you will almost certainly be enchanted by the dawn chorus. The property has its own enclosed courtyard, perfect for al fresco dining and is equipped with everything you need to cook up the finest local produce. Pop down to Newlyn harbour for the catch of the day, or head up to St Buryan Farm Shop for deli delights and fresh local meats. You will be truly spoilt for choice. The interior is predominantly finished in white and oak, with details that echo the colours of the turquoise sea, Cornish granite and golden lichens. A curated selection of work by local artists adorns the walls, artists that also exhibit regularly in the village hall and near-by galleries. The property opens onto a shared living room, dining area and kitchen. The huge squidgy corner sofa is perfect for unwinding after a day spent walking on the coastal path or shell hunting on the local white sandy beaches. Upstairs the double bedroom has plenty of eaves storage and a separate dressing and bathroom area. Swing open the roof lights and you can sleep under the stars. West Penwith has so much to explore and the owners who live in the main house are always delighted to share their local knowledge and recommendations to help make your stay truly special. We look forward to welcoming you to Little House very soon... Guest access If you need to get in touch, text or email and we will aim to respond as soon as possible.
