Pippin Rest | River, Wildlife & Views
Pippin Rest | River, Wildlife & Views
Description
One of the greatest pleasures of staying at Pippin Rest is the opportunity to slow down and reconnect with nature. Set within an unspoilt landscape, the property enjoys far-reaching views across the countryside towards Alfred’s Tower, a landmark that has watched over this beautiful corner of England since 1772. The space Steeped in history and full of character, Mill Farm and its annexe, Pippin Rest, date back to 1682 and were originally built to house workers from the nearby water mill. Although the mill has long since disappeared, its legacy lives on through the preserved culverts and the character of the farmhouse itself. Lovingly cared for over the centuries, it has evolved to offer modern comforts while retaining the original features and charm that make it such a special place to stay. The annexe is attached to the rear of the owner’s home but has its own private entrance, giving you your own comfortable space throughout your stay. The well-equipped kitchen includes everything you’ll need for preparing meals, while the cosy living area provides a comfortable place to relax, with a sofa that can be made up into a double bed if required. The bedroom is arranged with two separate single beds positioned together, offering flexible sleeping arrangements while remaining as two individual mattresses. A bathroom and washing machine complete the accommodation, making it ideal for both short breaks and longer stays. Outside, you’ll have your own private garden with outdoor seating, perfect for enjoying a morning coffee or an evening drink surrounded by nature. Guests are also welcome to wander down to the river within the grounds. To reach it, you’ll walk through a separate section of the owners’ garden, while your private garden remains exclusively for your use. The gardens are a labour of love rather than a perfectly manicured show garden. Carefully managed using natural methods, they provide a haven for native wildflowers and wildlife. Depending on the season, you may spot kingfishers skimming along the river, woodpeckers on the lawn, butterflies and dragonflies drifting through the gardens, or even deer quietly wandering through the grounds. If you’re fortunate, you may even catch a glimpse of an otter along the riverbank. As evening falls, the countryside becomes wonderfully peaceful. With very little light pollution, the night sky fills with stars, while the calls of tawny and barn owls echo across the landscape. Whether you’re enjoying your morning coffee in the garden, wandering down to the river or simply sitting beneath a sky full of stars, you’ll find that nature isn’t just something to admire here - it’s part of your stay. Pippin Rest offers a peaceful escape where history, wildlife and modern comfort come together.
