Idyllic retreat, surrounded by nature.
Description
Buckator Cottage is ideal for couples and boasts a romantic wood-fired hot tub. The one bedroom property sits in splendid isolation in a beautiful valley on the edge of Dartmoor, surrounded by hundreds of acres of woods, moorland and a river, suitable for wild swimming, all of which is directly accessible on foot from the property. It is the perfect haven for anyone wishing to reconnect with nature, such as walkers, bird watchers, or writers and artists. The space Buckator Cottage has a small porch with space for coats and shoes. This leads to the open plan living/kitchen/dining area. In addition to the wood burner there is underfloor heating throughout. There is a sofa, lounge chair, TV and DVD player, as well as an eclectic selection of films. The kitchen is equipped with an induction hob, oven, microwave, toaster and kettle, etc. The wet room has a monsoon shower, with towels and toiletries supplied. There is a washing machine, dryer, iron and small deep freeze in the shed next to the cottage. A set of steep stairs leads to a cosy cabin style double bedroom with painted wood walls and floors. It has a small chest of drawers and a clothes rail. The bed is positioned so you can enjoy the view of the field (and our pet ponies!). The cottage is at the end of a mile long track. It is not suitable for cars will low suspensions. It is fine for regular cars, as long as you take it slowly. If you would rather park at the top of the moor the hosts can arrange to pick you up at the beginning of your stay and return you to your car at the end. Parking depends on how wet it has been. During dry spells, you can drive across the field right up to the cottage, otherwise we would recommend parking 100 metres away, in the field up from the cottage, or by the garage. We provide a festival cart for taking your luggage to and from your vehicle. When you’re at the cottage it feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere, but Tavistock, a vibrant market town, is only a 15 minute drive. Here you will find a mix of independent and high street shops, including a dedicated cheese shop, delicatessen, cafes, pubs and an award winning pannier market, most days. On the second and fourth Saturday of every month the town square hosts a popluar farmers’ market. On the southern edge of the town there are 3 major supermarkets. If fishing is your thing, we have 200m of river frontage you can access, but you will be responsible for obtaining any necessary licences. Guest access There is a coded keysafe next to the front door, but if we know you're coming, we'll likely leave the front door unlocked (it's that kind of place!)
