Jutta's house and garden

Jutta's house and garden are a unique and informal place to stay where interior, charm and proximity to nature are central. The house is located on a quiet and idyllic smallholding by the Halden River, with its own dock and within walking distance of Ørje town center. The home has a very simple standard and is well furnished. Here, you can start your day with coffee in the garden, take a dip from the dock, or go for a walk in the woods. The place is the family's country home, and much remains as it was when Jutta lived there, with a focus on re-cycling and history. The space The property is an old small farm from 1870 with a unique location by Rødenessjøen. Our family has lived there since 1890 and, in addition to running the small farm, has worked in the forest and in timber floating in the Halden river system. The last one in the family who worked with timber floating was Jutta's husband, Uncle Einar. We took over in 2024 when Aunt Jutta passed away in 2023, at the age of 99. She had then lived alone in the house for 20 years after Uncle Einar passed away in 2003. The house has been expanded and modified many times since 1890, but, for example, a toilet was not installed until 1989. Since the takeover, we have fixed the roof, installed a folding door, connected the house to the public water and sewer network, and created a small bathroom with a shower and hot water. A new outdoor area will be built facing south, and a part of the panel will eventually be replaced and painted. While making the place more functional, we are committed to preserving the property's charm, and much has therefore been kept as it has always been. Guest access Guests can use the house, the garden, the greenhouse, and the dock. Other things to note "Jutta's house and garden" is close to the village Ørje. With walking distance of just over a mile and bike path, you'll be downtown. Ørje city center offers, among other things, cafes, city beach, shops and locks. There are several swimming beaches along the Halden river in the immediate area. There are several hiking trails in the forest and along the watercourse and there is a playground nearby. "Jutta's house and garden" have access to their own dock. There are fishing opportunities from the pier on the property and you can borrow the fishing rod located in the wind. You must arrange a fishing license yourself. There is the possibility to rent a floating sauna right near the property.
