The Surrey Hills Snug | One-bed barn conversion

A cosy getaway with exposed beams, a semi-private flower garden and stone-flagged patio. Our one-bedroom barn conversion sits at the end of a quiet country lane just north of Ewhurst, with a public footpath from the door leading up to Pitch Hill and into the Hurtwood forest. Perfectly placed for walkers, cyclists, and anyone craving real countryside calm an hour from London. King-size bed, fully equipped kitchen, free WiFi, 4K TV, free parking, and your well-behaved dog is welcome too. The space The Snug is a fully self-contained, separate building on our property — the conversion of a characterful old barn, with a deep tiled roof, exposed beams and flagstone steps rising up through the lavender to the front porch. You have your own private entrance and the run of the entire space. Inside, it has a simple relaxed country feel, with everything you need for a cosy, comfortable stay. The lounge has a comfy leather sofa to sink into after a day on the hills, and an extendable dining table ready for a slow breakfast or a home cooked meal. The 4K TV provides all the usual streaming apps, and the wifi is free, very fast, and available throughout. The bedroom has a comfortable king-size bed, white linens with a botanical-print throw, and blackout blinds to help you sleep in. The bathroom has a shower over a bath. The kitchen is fully equipped for anything from a quick breakfast to a proper home-cooked dinner: induction hob, oven, microwave, kettle, toaster, air fryer, fridge and freezer. We've tried to think of the little things: soap, shampoo, conditioner, fresh towels and a hairdryer are all provided. Plus kitchen essentials like salt, pepper, olive oil and cooking utensils. Secure bike storage and/or baby travel cot is available on request — just let us know when you book. Step out of the door onto your own flagstone patio (one of our favourite spots on the whole property!). A table and chairs sit in a sunny circle, surrounded by a beautiful flower garden, a weeping willow, and mature trees framing the view out across the fields. What makes The Snug special is where it sits. Nestled within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, you can step out of the door onto a public footpath that leads up to Pitch Hill (around a 15-minute walk to the top, with some of the finest views in the Surrey Hills) and into the Hurtwood Forest — a paradise for hikers, road cyclists, mountain bikers and dog walkers. The whole network of Surrey Hills AONB trails opens up from here. The setting is wonderfully peaceful: we're at the end of a private no-through road. A few useful distances: - The nearest shop is a 5 minute drive, it’s a wonderful village stores which will have everything you need - Hazelbank Village Stores - A 10 minute drive into Cranleigh (the largest village in England) which has all the amenities - Supermarkets, pharmacy, cafes, restaurants etc) - About 20 minutes on foot along a walking path to Cranleigh Golf & Country Club - 25 minutes on foot, or a 4-minute drive, to Ewhurst village and an excellent gastropub and village shop - About a 12 minute drive from Shere, the beautiful and famous Surrey village, well known as the setting for The Holiday film - A short drive to several more well-loved Surrey Hills pubs (The Parrot in Forest Green, The Drummond in Albury, and many others) - Around an hour drive from London - Around half an hour drive from Gatwick Airport Guest access You have full private use of the entire Snug for the duration of your stay — your own front door, your own patio garden, your own parking. You will have exclusive use of the patio area outside the Snug, but please note that the rest of the garden is private to us. There are many fantastic walks directly from the property. We live in the main house, so we're easy to reach if you need anything. Self check-in via a key lockbox means you can arrive at any time that works for you. Other things to note Our family: We have two young children and a small fluffy dog (a Cavapoo), but we will do our best to keep them out of your way. Pets: We love dogs and one well-behaved dog is very welcome. Please mention them when you book. Sleeps: Comfortable for 2 adults, plus a baby in the travel cot, which we can provide on request. Bike storage: For the cyclists / mountain bikers, we can securely store your bikes in our locked workshop, provided on request.
