The space 🌿 Your Eastern Shore Cottage on the Millpond Welcome to our little cottage on Galestown Millpond, a peaceful, thoughtfully decorated retreat where you can wake up beside the water, launch a kayak just steps from your door, spend the afternoon at the beach, grill dinner outside, and come home to somewhere quiet at the end of the day. The cottage comfortably accommodates up to 3 guests and is ideal for couples, solo travelers, small families, anglers, paddlers, weekend getaways and anyone looking for a comfortable and affordable home base for exploring Maryland and Delaware’s Eastern Shore. Primary booking guest must be 21 years of age or older. We’re located in a tiny, quiet waterfront community surrounded by the slower pace and natural beauty of the Eastern Shore. At the same time, Ocean City, Rehoboth Beach and Bethany Beach are approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour away, depending on your destination and seasonal traffic. For guests who don’t mind the drive, we’re a great alternative to paying peak beach-town hotel prices. Spend your money on the boardwalk, restaurants, shopping and everything else you actually came to the coast to enjoy , then leave the crowds behind and come home to your own cottage. 🌊 Bring Your Kayak & Fishing Gear One of our favorite things about the cottage is just how close you are to the water. A public boat launch is approximately 50 feet away, so guests bringing a kayak, canoe or small boat without a motor can be on Galestown Millpond within minutes. The pond is also a popular local fishing spot, making the cottage a particularly fun home base for anglers. Please note: Fishing conditions vary seasonally, and natural aquatic vegetation may occasionally make fishing more difficult. Feel free to message us and ask about the current condition of the pond. We don’t provide kayaks, boats or fishing equipment, so please bring your own gear if you’d like to take advantage of the water. The millpond is for boating, kayaking and fishing rather than swimming, but even if you never get on the water, it creates a beautiful and peaceful backdrop for your stay. You’ll often see the birds and wildlife that make their home around the pond and surrounding countryside. 🏡 A Small Cottage With Everything You Need Inside, you’ll have your own private, self-contained space with a queen bed and futon, comfortably accommodating up to three guests. We even include a complimentary basket of snacks and a customized welcome sign! Rather than feeling like a bare-bones rental, we’ve put a lot of thought into making the cottage feel warm, comfortable and full of character. It’s carefully decorated and stocked with the everyday things that make traveling easier. The full kitchen gives you the freedom to cook instead of eating every meal out — especially useful for longer stays or families trying to keep vacation costs reasonable. You’ll find basic kitchen essentials along with a stocked coffee station for easy mornings at the cottage. We also provide bathroom essentials, fresh linens and towels, so you can pack a little lighter. You’ll also have Wi-Fi and a smart TV when you’re ready to unwind after a day out. Most importantly, we take cleanliness seriously. The cottage is thoroughly cleaned and thoughtfully prepared between guests so you can arrive, unpack and immediately feel comfortable. ☕ Slow Mornings & Evenings Outside One of the best parts of staying outside the resort towns is having somewhere peaceful to come home to. Enjoy your coffee outside in the morning, listen to the sounds around the millpond, or relax in the outdoor sitting area after a long day exploring. A propane grill is available for guests who’d rather grill dinner at the cottage than head back out to a restaurant. Pick up something good on the way home, fire up the grill and enjoy a quiet Eastern Shore evening. It’s simple, comfortable and wonderfully removed from the traffic and commotion you’ll find closer to the coast. 🏖️ Beach Days Without Beach-Hotel Prices If the beach is the main reason for your trip, please note our location before booking: the major Maryland and Delaware beach towns are approximately 45–60 minutes away by car, with drive times varying by destination and summer traffic. Many guests choose our cottage because they’d rather make the drive and enjoy the benefits of having their own private cottage, full kitchen, outdoor space and peaceful waterfront surroundings instead of paying significantly more to stay directly in a busy resort area. From here, you can plan day trips to Ocean City, Rehoboth Beach, Bethany Beach and other destinations along the Maryland and Delaware coast. Our location also makes it easy to explore different beach towns throughout your stay instead of limiting yourself to just one. Head toward the coast in the morning, spend the day swimming, shopping, eating, exploring the boardwalk or enjoying the nightlife, and return to the quiet of the millpond when you’re finished. 🎣 Not Just for Beach Trips There’s plenty to enjoy without ever heading to the ocean. It’s a cozy little place on the water where you can have coffee by the millpond in the morning, explore the Eastern Shore during the day, and come back somewhere quiet at night. We have a peaceful 1.25-acre property nestled among beautiful pine trees and surrounded by nature. The cottage offers a quiet, relaxing setting where you can enjoy the sights and sounds of local wildlife, including birds, turtles, deer, and other native animals that frequently visit the area. While the property feels private and secluded, there are two neighboring homes that are visible from portions of the yard. Our family home is also located on the property but is separated from the cottage by a natural tree line, providing privacy for both you and us during your stay. Please note that the property is not fenced. If you’re traveling with dogs, they must remain on a leash at all times for their safety, the safety of local wildlife, and out of respect for neighboring properties. 💕 Make Your Stay Extra Special Celebrating an anniversary, romantic getaway, or something even bigger? We’ll also coordinate your preferred message, colors, music, and even a special video or display on the Smart TV so the moment feels uniquely yours. Take-home gifts: fresh roses, wine/champagne, chocolates & wine glasses. All other décor is part of the setup and remains at the cottage. Guest access Guests have private access to the entire cottage for the duration of their stay, as well as full use of our yard and outdoor areas surrounding the cottage. You’re welcome to relax outside, enjoy the waterfront setting, use the outdoor seating area and propane grill, or simply wander around and enjoy the property. Our property is entirely on the same side of the road as the cottage. You’re welcome to use the grassy areas on our side of the street. Once you cross the road, however, you have left our property. The grassy areas surrounding the neighboring homes across the street are private property, so we kindly ask guests and pets to remain off of those areas. The exception is the public boat launch directly across from the cottage, approximately 50 feet away. The boat launch is public and guests are absolutely welcome to use it for launching kayaks, canoes or small boats and for accessing Galestown Millpond. Please remember that the boat launch is a shared public space and is not part of our private property. There is also a locked garage attached to the cottage that we use for private storage. The garage is not included with the rental and is the only portion of the cottage structure that guests cannot access. Otherwise, make yourself at home, the cottage and our yard are yours to enjoy during your stay. 🌿 Other things to note Well Water Notice: The cottage is supplied by a private well. Due to naturally occurring iron in the groundwater, you may occasionally notice a slight orange or brown tint or staining in sinks and toilets. This is completely normal for the area and the water is safe for bathing, cooking, and drinking. However, for your comfort, complimentary bottled drinking water will be provided if you prefer to use that for drinking or preparing meals. Wildlife & Nature: Our property is home to a variety of local wildlife, including ducks, geese, turtles, frogs, herons, and other native animals. Because the cottage sits on a natural pond, geese and ducks occasionally leave droppings on the lawn,driveway, and boat slip. While we do our best to keep outdoor areas tidy, we cannot control where wildlife goes, and this is simply part of the natural environment. We appreciate your understanding as you enjoy this peaceful waterfront setting! Seasonal Pond Conditions: The cottage overlooks a natural freshwater pond, and conditions change throughout the year. During warmer months, you may notice varying amounts of naturally occurring algae and aquatic vegetation. The appearance of the water can change with the season, weather, and temperature, and this is a normal part of the pond’s ecosystem. At times, heavier aquatic vegetation may also make fishing or boating more difficult in certain areas of the pond. We cannot control these natural conditions, but they are simply part of the beauty and wildlife of a natural waterfront property.
