Hind House - North Yorkshire Country Escape
Hind House - North Yorkshire Country Escape
Description
Tucked away on a traditional family estate, Hind House is a peaceful two-bedroom cottage with far-reaching countryside views over the North Yorkshire moors and a beautifully planted walled garden. Step straight onto walks through the historic Crathorne Estate, with an award-winning pub, farm shop and village store nearby. Perfectly placed for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors, Yorkshire coast and a host of cultural attractions, Hind House offers a relaxing and private escape in every season. The space Sleeping 4 guests across 2 bedrooms Hind House enjoys a wonderfully private setting with no neighbouring houses overlooking the property. The principal rooms and bedrooms are all south-facing with views of the moors including the distinctive outline of Roseberry Topping to the east. Old maps show Hind House sitting in parkland created in the early 19th century and it is aptly named as you will often see roe deer grazing in the field in front. On your way here you will likely drive through Crathorne village, home to the excellent Crathorne Arms, Five Houses Farm Shop and Kitchen and delightful A Still Life selling delicious cakes and artisanal goods with bottles of Crathorne-produced fresh milk available from the Crathorne Farm Dairy Milk Hut opposite. You will turn off the main road by All Saints Church and continue down onto the Mill bridge over the river Leven. The river is home to all sorts of wildlife including wild trout, kingfishers, herons and you may even catch a glimpse of the elusive otter. If you are interested in fishing please get in touch at the time of booking as we can arrange a permit for you. Hind House is set in a generous wrap-around garden with plenty of space for garden games and a terrace at the rear for catching the afternoon and evening sun. The little gem of a walled garden, fully enclosed and private, is accessible directly from the house and garage making it the perfect place to safely leave children and dogs if one is busy elsewhere in the house. The Cottage The light, airy kitchen has views out over the garden and fields. It is well-equipped with modern appliances and space to sit at a table. The adjoining pantry provides additional storage along with a fridge freezer and traditional Belfast sink. The patio with outdoor dining table and chairs is conveniently accessible from the kitchen. Also on the ground floor there is a walk-in shower with basin and WC and a practical utility room housing laundry facilities and a Belfast sink for washing off muddy boots etc… extra pegs for coats/hats and space for a dog bed. Beyond the utility, linking to the walled garden, is the garage providing additional storage, ideal for bicycles, surfboards, muddy boots and drying dogs after a countryside walk. The two reception rooms are designed for comfort and flexibility. The dining/living room has an antique dining table with banquette and chairs to seat 6 comfortably. It’s a good spot for card and board games, working or dining. There are also three comfortable chairs tucked around a log burning fire for curling up with a book away from the TV, or sitting and chatting whilst others might be eating at the table. A cosy second sitting room has a big comfortable sofa and two chairs, a large smart TV and a log burner. It’s a lovely comfortable space to gather, play, watch a good film, or read in front of the crackling fire. There are plenty of books for all ages to choose from. Upstairs you can settle down for the night in one of two spacious and comfortable bedrooms, one with a king-size bed, the other can be arranged as either a twin room or a super-king size bed to suit your stay. The bathroom enjoys stunning countryside views, which can be admired straight from the bath — perfect for long relaxing soaks to unwind at the end of the day. Care has been taken throughout the house to furnish it with interesting art and textiles and whether you are planning a walking holiday, a relaxing countryside escape or time away with family and friends, we hope you will find Hind House an idyllic base from which to enjoy this remarkable corner of Yorkshire. In the cottage you’ll find: Plenty of logs, firelights, kindling and matches. Basic kitchen provisions of toilet paper, washing powder, dishwasher tablets and soap will be in your cottage for arrival as well as some larder provisions to get you started – tea, coffee pods, milk, bread, oil, salt and pepper – plus a BBQ/fire-pit for outdoor fires and cooking. All bed linen and towels are included, plus toiletries including shower wash, shampoo and conditioner. For children we have a high chair and side rails for those who need them. A travel cot with associated linens is stored in the downstairs cupboard in the sitting room. Larger cots can be put up by arrangement for a small fee, please get in touch if you need this. In the upstairs bathroom there is also a non-slip mat for the bath and stool for little ones to reach the basin. You’ll also find some toys in the downstairs cupboard to keep young children entertained. Guest access There is generous parking for two cars on the drive. You have full access to the house and garden during your stay. The bedrooms are on the first floor accessed up a fairly narrow staircase so unfortunately this is not a wheelchair accessible property. There are wonderful walks from the doorstep. A map of the public footpaths and permissive footpaths on the estate can be found in the information file in the house, as well as a book of walks in North Yorkshire.
