From its extraordinary double-height entrance hall and sweeping staircase to its marble fireplaces, original sash windows and mature walled gardens, the house offers an opportunity to experience authentic late Georgian elegance while enjoying modern comfort. The space For the past year, we’ve been lovingly restoring Montenotte House, carefully preserving its historic character while creating a warm and welcoming place to stay. It’s a privilege to open our home to guests and share a small piece of Cork’s architectural heritage. The story of Montenotte House is tied directly to the rise of Cork’s 19th-century "merchant princes"—prosperous entrepreneurs who built grand hillside estates to escape the industrial noise of the city center. Erected in 1832 for master baker and merchant William Connor, the residence was intentionally positioned high above the city. This allowed affluent trade leaders like Connor to enjoy clean air and expansive views across the River Lee, keeping a watchful eye on the bustling shipping lanes and harbor trade below that fueled the city's golden age of commerce. Designed to showcase both success and refined craft, the home stands as an authentic slice of Cork's mercantile history. Guests enjoy exclusive use of the upper two floors of the house and attic, while the owners reside in a completely self-contained basement apartment with a separate private entrance. First floor: - Hallway - Kitchen - Living room (with access to gardens) - Dining room (include large mahogany table) Second floor - Bedroom 1: King bed, en-suite bathroom - Bedroom 2: Double bed - Bedroom 3: Super king or two single beds - Bathroom Attic - Bedroom 4: Double bed & small toilet room The garden is shared, but all interior living spaces are exclusively yours. Situated on Cork’s historic Montenotte Road, adjoining Lover’s Walk, the property offers a quiet, elevated hideaway just a 10-minute walk from St. Luke’s Cross and the Victorian Quarter or a 35 minute walk to city centre (Kent Station is a 20-minute walk away). No private parking available, limited street parking only. Taxi services and bus routes also available nearby. While we welcome families, the home's historic period architecture—featuring grand open hallways, sweeping staircases, and original large windows—is best suited for guests aged 10 and older.
