Grade II Listed Historic House in Thornton Hough
Grade II Listed Historic House in Thornton Hough
Description
Enjoy beautiful countryside in this unique grade II listed 19th century lodge house in a stunning Wirral village. Thornton Hough is a picturesque village whose name originated when Roger de Thornton's daughter married Richard de la Hough, bringing the two family names together. This gatehouse was constructed in 1894 and although recently updated retains much of its original character, including a gabled entrance porch, as well as timber-framed construction and a traditional stone roof. The space Through the original towering stone gateposts, a tree-lined driveway to the Manor House beyond also provides access to the lodge, a distinctive timber-framed home. Inside the front door, a tiled hallway sets the tone for the character found throughout the property. There is good sized sitting room with a wood-burning stove, which provides a cosy retreat during the colder months. High ceilings throughout reflect the building's Victorian heritage. The windows retain the original (single glazed!) leaded glass, and provide views out to the garden. The kitchen combines traditional styling with practical design. Forest-green cabinetry is paired with engineered worktops, while contrasting floor tiles define the space. A classic butler sink overlooks the internal courtyard. At the front of the house, the dining room enjoys abundant natural light from another large bay window. A timber door connects the kitchen to an internal hallway with a tiled floor. The newly fitted boiler is also found in a cupboard here. At the end of this hallway is the ground floor double bedroom. Next to this is a bathroom finished with marble tiling and includes a walk-in shower. Upstairs, a landing decorated in warm plum shades provides access to three well-proportioned bedrooms and a recessed area currently arranged as a cosy reading corner. The principal bedroom retains an original fireplace, now decorative. Two further bedrooms offer their own distinctive period details: one features a cast-iron fireplace together with an original arched window set within a brick-lined alcove, while the other has a pitched ceiling and a washbasin. The house has recently been refitted with new carpets throughout. Please note the layout There are four bedrooms; two separate double bedrooms (1 x king and 1 double), and a single bedroom are all on the second floor with a family bathroom. The other double bedroom (Queen bed) is on the ground floor, next to the new bathroom with a walk in shower. This is connected to the house and accessed via an internal, glazed corridor off the kitchen with a view of the internal courtyard. Please keep in mind that although the house has been sympathetically modernised with many modern conveniences, if you are looking for modern this is not the right property for you; for example, the windows, which are listed, remain single glazed. Guest access Guests will have sole use of the property during the rental period. Other things to note Parking: There are two parking spaces at the house, one immediately in front of the front door and another round the side of the house. The lawn opposite the house must not be used for parking and the driveway outside must be kept clear as this is used by our neighbours to access their property. There is further free parking in the village, approximately 2 minutes walk away. The road: The road outside the house transitions from 40mph to 20mph immediately by the gateposts. For guests with children please note the gardens wrap around the property and although there is fencing/hedging there are no gates on the stone gateposts, therefore children should be supervised at all times. No smoking is permitted anywhere on the property.
