Rural Nara Farm Stay | Private House & Tea-Picking
Description
A Warm Light in Rural Nara A hidden retreat where nature and tradition come together. Just 20 minutes from Nara Station, escape to the peaceful countryside of Tawara, a region known for rice and tea since ancient times. Stay in a beautifully restored 100-year-old farmhouse built with natural earth and wood, and experience the quiet beauty of rural Japan. Slow down, listen to the wind in the trees, and enjoy the warmth and timeless charm of traditional Japanese life at your own pace. The space Escape the city. Step into the satoyama hills of Nara — where the air carries the scent of trees and birdsong drifts from somewhere far away. Time moves differently here. ◆ The warmth of old Japan, all to yourselves Carefully renovated in February 2026, this entire traditional farmhouse — a kominka — is yours alone. Thick wooden beams, earthen walls, soft light filtering through the engawa veranda: the soul of old Japan remains, gently paired with modern comfort. For the duration of your stay, the whole property belongs to you and those you love. Couples, families, kindred spirits. A private retreat in the satoyama — moments that belong only to you. ◆ Cooking over fire — a forgotten kind of joy In the evening, light the kamado, a traditional Japanese wood-fired stove, and set the hagama — a deep iron pot designed specifically for cooking rice over an open flame. As the rice slowly comes to life, a warm, nutty fragrance fills the old farmhouse — the kind of smell that makes you stop and breathe a little deeper. It's a simple ritual, but one that feels quietly remarkable. Children crowd around, eyes wide, watching the flames. Couples tend the fire together, side by side, no words needed. In a world of microwaves and delivery apps, cooking this way reconnects you with something real — the unhurried pleasure of making food with your own hands. ◆ Touch the soil. Pick the leaves. Feel nature with all five senses. Tea-picking, agri-healing, instructor-led yoga — we offer experiences you won't find anywhere else (fee-based, advance reservation required). The smell of garden soil, the feel of tea leaves between your fingers, the warmth of tea you've roasted yourself — for a little while, phones and work simply cease to exist. Nearby cafés and eateries showcase local Nara produce, letting you savor the region's rich food culture at your own pace. ◆ A wood-fired bath. A sky full of stars. End your day soaking in a traditional maki-buro — a bath heated with firewood. Step outside afterward and look up: the satoyama night sky is astonishing in its stars. (Fee-based, advance reservation required.) ◆ Getting here & practical details Approx. 30 min by car from Kintetsu Nara Station or JR Nara Station Free parking for 3 vehicles Accommodates up to 5 guests 2 shower rooms & 2 restrooms Fresh tea in spring.
