The Shed - £60 per night

The Shed is the ideal for a one night stay for anyone walking or cycling along the Pennine Way, Cost to Cost or Isaacs Tea Trail. Welcoming and rustic, this cosy cabin has everything you need: bunk beds, basic cooking facilities, electric heater, a porta loo, fresh water and a garden to relax in. Separate, secure bike storage is also available upon request. However it does not have running water, a shower or bed linens The space This is effectively a walkers bothy so has very limited faculties but is ideal for walkers or cyclists needing a one night stay. This note is to manage expectations and it is not designed for motorist seeking to break a journey. Secluded within a lush garden, The Shed sits in the heart of Slaggyford village. The charming village has a traditional train station with a coal powered train that takes visitors to Alston and back, it even had an ice cream parlor for the hot summer days which provides the perfect refreshing treat. This property is set in the back garden of Cherry Tree Cottage, walk around the side into the rear garden, The Shed is then located down rough steps on the lower tier of the garden. This property has all the required amenities for a comfortable one night stay in the bunk house. It has basic facilities to cook, eat, sleep (and to use the porta loo) however, there is no sink or shower. There is a second shed which the owner is happy to provide access too for bike storage - information for this will be in your check in information. This booking is only for the cabin and the bottom tier of the garden, the top tier is access only and is the owners private garden. The local pub Kirkstyle Inn which has been fully refurbished and offers meals and refreshments. Only a 5 minute drive or a 15/20min walk along the road. A torch and HiVis jacket is recommended as there is no footpath although there is a grass verge. It is also home to a traditional train station with amazing ice cream parlour. The train takes you through to Alston and back making for a lovely day out! Alston is nestled in the heart of the North Pennines National Landscapes Area, Alston proudly holds the title of England’s highest market town. Rich in charm and history, it offers everything you need for a memorable stay—from essential amenities to delightful local experiences. Alston is home to a fantastic array of independent shops, eateries, cafés, and pubs. Visit Saddlers Bakery for freshly baked bread and sweet treats, all made from scratch. Walters cafe and wine bars offers the best of both worlds with plenty of home cooked meals and bakery goods with the added bonus of serving a selection of wines and beers in the evening. Another local cafe is Cobbles Cafe. It offers a variety of homemade hot and cold food and baked goods along side a lovely cup of tea or coffee and an excellent hot chocolate. Enjoy delicious, locally sourced meals at Alston House or The Cumberland Inn, a favourites among locals and visitors alike. While The Turks Head doesn't have a restaurant, it does host a lovely quiz night and raffle where all proceedings go to charity. Stop by the Cane Workshop or Alston Wholefoods, where you’ll find award-winning jams and chutneys and locally made mustard—perfect for a gift or a picnic. ​Whether you're picking up supplies at the outdoor clothing store or grabbing a bite from one of the many local eateries, Alston offers a warm welcome and everything you need within easy reach. Perfectly positioned near the borders of Durham, Northumberland, and the Lake District, Alston makes an excellent base for exploring the region. Nature & Outdoor Activities The surrounding landscape is a haven for walkers, cyclists, and nature lovers. Both the Pennine Way and Coast to Coast Cycle Route run directly through Alston. The rolling hills, open moorland, and dramatic views provide a spectacular backdrop for outdoor adventures.
