Etoile du Nord - your great escape to the country

Officially rated 4 stars by Orne Tourist Office, Etoile du Nord is a tastefully-renovated Colombage barn with high standard comforts & amenities. Located in the countryside near the medieval town of Domfront in Normandy, the gite is the perfect getaway to retreat from the stresses of modern life. A quiet rural setting with private courtyard parking, the local town can offer all requirements for provisions & dining. Perfect for nature & dark skies, a restful night's sleep is virtually guaranteed. The space *Update Aug 2026 - the new pool has been installed and is up and running, but we have a substantial problem with algae bloom in the water due to extreme temperatures, in some cases exceeding 40⁰C. We are doing everything in our power to resolve the situation, including everyday filter changes and cleaning, addition of treatments to the water to kill and remove the algae, and we have ordered extra equipment to boost the filtering of the water. However, as everyone in our local area with a pool is experiencing the same problem, supplies of the equipment are in big demand and we are still waiting for delivery. We can only apologise profusely for this situation and assure everyone that we are doing everything possible to remedy the situation. Relaxation is the key word here - and in the summer we have an outdoor pool to cool down in, and outdoor dining facilities. The best feature according to our guests is the comfortable beds and choice of pillows. Apparently they're the best beds that they've slept in! The living room is comfortable with ample room for everyone - snuggly sofas, cuddly chairs and enormous cushions for the children! The kitchen is well-equipped and if you require particular implements, we have them! Plenty of crockery, glasses and serving and cooking dishes for those special nights. Subject to weather conditions, our outdoor pool is open from end of May to September due to necessary winter protection for the pump equipment, or at the owner's discretion. The outdoor pool is exceptionally popular in the high season and is situated right next to the patio decking. Guest access You have the whole gite to yourself! Parking is in a large private courtyard well away from the public road. Please note that there are two places in Domfront called La Bigotière so you must follow the map directions when we issue them to you. In order to accommodate extra guests, we have had to implement a supplement for extra people staying over, in addition to the seven guests that the gite supports.
