Il Frantoio di Flavia
A charming house located on the top floor of a renovated mill at the entrance of the medieval village of Monte Marcello, on the border between Liguria and Tuscany. It is a lovely apartment, with a large living / dining room and a wonderful view to the Apennine mountains and the whole valley of the Magra. Located between the sea and the mountains, it is ideal for those wishing to explore the area, with fantastic walks in the national coastal park. The sea is nearby, although you have to take a walk of 700 steps! The easiest option is to drive or to take the bus to Bocca di Magra or to Lerici from where there are boat trips along the coast. The house has a small terrace on top of the stone staircase; a wonderful place to sit with a morning coffee or evening with Prosecco and gaze through the white marble mountains of Carrara. Of the glazed front door opens into a living / dining room with a ceiling fan. Please note that all the windows of the house are provided with blinds with mosquito nets . A sliding door leads to a double room with a double bed or 2 single beds. It is possible to add an extra bed in case of need. A corridor on the right leads to a small kitchen with a dishwasher, followed by the bathroom with a washing machine. The spacious master bedroom has a ceiling fan and large closets. The mill is elegantly furnished with an eclectic mix of rustic and antique furniture collected by the owner's family from all over the world. The village of Montemarcello is classified as one of the most beautiful towns in Italy. Around the village, the forests of evergreen oaks are now part of a national park and are crossed by marked trails. You can use these to reach the coast, where there are the picturesque villages of Tellaro and Lerici. Further afield, you can get boats along the coast from Bocca di Magra, and visit hidden bays, or go further north towards Portovenere and the Cinque Terre, with wonderful villages along the steep slopes, often accessible only by boat or on foot. Inland, the Magra Valley and the surrounding hills are the joy of a cyclist, with winding streets their way up to the surrounding mountains. The area was once part of the kingdom of Luni, then conquered by the Romans. The city of Luni is now an archaeological site and you can explore the remains of the Roman city. Sarzana, with its fascinating historic center is the main city in the area today. Further afield, you can travel to Genoa in an hour and a half, and his beautifully restored harbor with small narrow streets and beautiful churches in rows, and its famous aquarium. Pisa is an hour away, Florence 2 hours, while Lucca is less than an hour.
