Arctic Island Paradise! Mineral Lake to Mt Rainier
Arctic Island Paradise! Mineral Lake to Mt Rainier
Description
Sometimes in the early morning when the soft cotton mist hangs over the lake just right you can still hear the sound of the shingle saws...that piercing whirring and buzzing and the coarser growl when the sharp blade bites into a knot in the cedar. Skookie & Hooter's Lake House bridges its past mountain town history of working folks with present day amenities for travelers adding EV chargers, a chef's kitchen and warm evening breezes on the deck, to be followed by soft bedding and sweet dreams. The space Skookie & Hooter's Lake House is a two story home in Mineral Washington. It is situated behind the local grocery called the Mineral Market which offers two EV charging stations. A little further behind the house you will find the "Headquarters Tavern" which has been a watering hole in Mineral since 1904. Across from the tavern is the Lions' Den Campground which is directly on the lake. The public boat launch and dock is minutes away. About Skookie & Hooter My brother Jon and I had a fabulous grandfather. Our dad was in the military and served in Korea in the early '50s, leaving our mom to care for Jon and me. We were a little older than toddler age and our birthdays were three days short of a year apart. Mom made the decision to move to Neskowin Oregon so that we could live with her dad while we were without our dad. Neskowin is on the coast a few miles north of Lincoln City. It was during this time that Jon became "Hooter" and I became "Skookie." Grandpa bestowed these unique monikers upon us. I really never knew how he came up with these names but I always appreciated having such a cool nickname. Nowadays I see that "Skookie" designates a skillet cookie. You'll notice owls perched throughout the rooms and this is an homage to "Hooter." So, back to present day Mineral. This little mountain town is similar in many ways to Neskowin. Fresh clean air, big water nearby and the sweet smell of wood smoke wafting in. Country small town respect for others and the idea of a chosen family not just the family you landed into at birth. We hope that your stay in our little piece of heaven either helps you to recall some of your own cherished memories or helps you to craft some new ones. Thanks for visiting!
