Stay in a one-of-a-kind architectural gem designed by the architect of Seattle’s Space Needle and originally built for celebrated artist Alden Mason. This professionally designed mid-century cabin includes a 2-bedroom main home plus a private studio suite. Enjoy a hot tub, firepit, outdoor dining, and a detached yoga/office studio. Views toward Portage Bay and the marina. Street parking and there are 38 stairs to reach the house. The space The Space When you book this listing, you have private access to the entire property, including the main home, the studio suite, and all of the outdoor amenities. NOTE: There is major construction happening in the bay in front of our house. We have not been given set dates of when the project will be loud and disruptive, and so far, there have only been a handful of days when that has been the case. We do not want any of our guests to experience that during their stay. Please reach out to Maile, our House Manager, who is getting weekly updates on the status of the road project and can let you know, to the best of our ability, if your dates will be during the quiet periods. Location The home is located in Seattle’s Portage Bay neighborhood, a quiet residential area known for its houseboats, marinas, and proximity to the University of Washington. There is public shoreline access to Portage Bay nearby, making it easy to enjoy the water and views. The neighborhood is considered safe and walkable, with easy access to restaurants, cafes, and downtown Seattle. Good to Know: Street parking only. During some phases of the construction project, the city puts out No Parking placards in front of our house. When this happens, street parking is available about 2 houses further East from our front steps. The home sits above the street and requires 38 stairs to reach the entrance. There are an additional 16 steps up to the detached office/yoga studio. The home is located near the SR-520 corridor, where ongoing construction may occasionally be visible or audible during weekday hours Air conditioning throughout the home Dogs are welcome with approval and a pet fee OTHER THINGS TO NOTE: •We require all of our guests to sign a rental agreement before staying at the Portage Bay Retreat. We send it out after booking and you will be able to do an electronic signature online. Located in Seattle’s Portage Bay neighborhood, the home sits between the University District, Capitol Hill, and Eastlake. The area is known for its marinas, houseboats, and rowing culture. Public shoreline access and waterfront parks are within walking distance where you can watch boats, rowing teams, and seaplanes on the bay. Downtown Seattle, Pike Place Market, and the Space Needle are about 10–15 minutes away. This architectural gem is perfect for guests who appreciate design, history, and a truly unique Seattle stay. Guest access Whole house access. This listing includes the downstairs studio suite with its own private entrance. Other things to note There are a lot of stairs (38) to get up to the main house, as such, this property is not suitable for anyone with mobility limitations.
