The Bear’s Den at the Retreat at Watoga makes a wonderful base camp for all your Pocahontas County adventures. Nestled in the Allegheny Mountains, The Bear’s Den offers a cozy, stationary camper setup perfect for families, couples or solo travelers looking to unwind and explore. Inside, you will find a comfortable sleeping space, a fully equipped kitchen area and a clean private bathroom- everything you need for a stress-free stay. Linens, towels, and basic essentials are provided. The space The Retreat at Watoga is a privately owned property located in Hillsboro (Seebert), WV - ¼ mile from Watoga State Park. It is steps away from the Greenbrier River and the Greenbrier River Bike Trail. It is owned and operated by Billy & Shelly Perry. We currently offer The Bear’s Den Camper and 2 full hook-up campsites (water, sewer, and electric) from April through October. Each site has a picnic table and a fire pit. If you would like to share space and reserve the camping spots with your group, contact us or check availability on Camp Spot. We have dreamed of owning property near Watoga for many years. We love spending time on the Greenbrier River and exploring Pocahontas County. We have three children that enjoy riding the Greenbrier River Bike Trail, fishing, hiking, and star-gazing in the park. We hope that our guests will find a welcoming place to relax and enjoy God’s beautiful creation as much as we do! Guest access Guests have access to a patio area with picnic table and a large green space with a swing set. There is a fire pit with attached grill that can be used for cooking. There are 6 camp chairs available as well as yard games. (Bocce ball and croquet). Other things to note Things to do: Greenbrier River: (2 minute walk) Fishing, Kayaking, Canoeing, Tubing, Swimming Greenbrier River Trail (2 minute walk to the trailhead at Seebert): The Greenbrier River Trail is a 78-mile former railroad now used for hiking, biking and horseback riding. It is the longest trail of its kind in West Virginia. The trail provides many breathtaking views as it passes through several small towns, crosses 35 bridges, goes through two tunnels and cuts through some of West Virginia's most remote areas. The Greenbrier River Trail is one of 50 Millennium Legacy Trails in the United States, and was rated one of the top 10 hiking trails in the country by Backpacker Magazine. Part of the Greenbrier River Trail lies within a National Radio Quiet Zone so cell phones do not work. Watoga State Park (1/4 mile to park entrance): Located in the mountains of Pocahontas County, Watoga State Park is West Virginia's largest state park. With 10,100 acres of land, Watoga is filled with many recreational activities including hiking, fishing and boating. Watoga Lake is known for excellent fishing opportunities and is part of the Division of Natural Resources' stocking program. A multipurpose building, museum and observation tower are just a few of the unique attractions at Watoga State Park. In October 2021, the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) awarded Watoga State Park with official Dark Sky Park status. Watoga is a beautiful destination to camp beneath a brilliant Almost Heaven starry sky.
